SN95 Ford Mustang Smokes Far More Powerful Dodge Viper in Drag Race

SN95 Ford Mustang vs Dodge Viper ACR Drag Race

Even with roughly half the power, this SN95 Ford Mustang puts on a show against a seriously impressive Dodge Viper ACR.

In the realm of fast cars – specifically, those that folks like to take to the drag strip for 1/4-mile or, more frequently, half- and full-mile racing – pretty much everyone is aware of what an absolute beast the Dodge Viper can be. There are several companies out there that specialize in adding copious amounts of power to that beloved sports car’s V10 powerplant, with quite a few out there packing well over 2,000 ponies – making for one heck of an effective drag strip weapon. That’s certainly the case with this particular Viper, but even its high level of output couldn’t save it against an SN95 Ford Mustang at the drag strip recently.

In this video from the YouTube channel ImportRace, we’re actually treated to a bit of an old fashioned twofer – this Viper lines up against an S197 Mustang before taking on the S95 Ford Mustang at the TX2K24 Texas Tussle. The Viper seen here is a 2016 ACR model that has received enough upgrades to crank out a reported 2,500 horsepower, which is a pretty astounding number. It also makes this Viper incredibly quick at the track, but of course, much of that depends on other things as well – the driver, weather conditions, and whether or not it can get that power to the ground effectively chiefly among them.

In the first race, the Viper ACR lines up against a 2011 Mustang that’s producing a reported 1,532 horsepower, which is also a lot – but roughly four digits fewer than its opponent, which should put it at a disadvantage regardless of other factors. However, the Viper driver botches their launch and is caught sleeping while the pony car rockets off the line. Luckily for them, the Mustang experiences a bit of an issue midway down the track, enabling the Viper to slip by and claim an easy win with an 8.08-second pass – while the Mustang slowly creeps to the finish line.

When the sun goes down, we’re treated to yet another matchup – this time, between the Viper and an SN95 Ford Mustang from the 1995 model year, which is reportedly making even less power – a mere 1,300 ponies, in fact. This time, the Viper driver cuts a better light, but the Mustang driver is all over it, popping a wheelie and putting on  a show from the start. It’s unclear what happens to the Viper, but the driver appears to hit the brakes before the finish line, resulting in a slower pass of 8.728 seconds.

Regardless of what was going on, it’s unclear if the Viper stood a chance against the SN95 Ford Mustang, regardless, given the fact that it ripped off an impressive 7.808-second pass on this fine evening. Either way, it’s fun to see these titans of the drag strip battle it out on the tarmac in front of a large crowd, but even more satisfying when a pony car takes home the win in what amounts to a real David vs Goliath type of battle.
