Shelby GT350 Officially Gets 526 Galloping Ponies!
What’s that you hear? That’s the sound of the folks over at Chevrolet shaking in their shoes because we now know exactly how much horsepower the new Shelby GT350 is going to make. That magic number is 526 horsepower. That’s 21 more than the Camaro Z/28, and for a heck of a lot less money.
Thanks to a tweet from the folks over at Road & Track that shows an official dyno graph, we also know that the 526 horsepower comes pretty high up in the rev range. With the flat-plane crankshaft, the engine revs to an 8,250 RPM redline.
Those extra revs are where the engine can make big power from its 5.2L of displacement. Not only does the stratospheric redline help the GT350 make big power without forced induction, but it also makes it sound pretty awesome!
Though we haven’t gotten official word, we expect the GT350R to make the same magic number.
Once we get a chance to drive these monsters, we’ll let you know what it’s like. Until then, take satisfaction in knowing that there’s a strong possibility that the new Shelby will knock the Camaro Z/28 of its track-performance pedestal.
