SCT gets 35 more HP and 46 more lb-ft of torque out of EcoBoost Mustang
There’s just no escaping the new EcoBoost Mustang with all the attention the car’s getting. Even amid some questions of whether the car will actually sell well in the U.S., there’s no questioning whether it’s piqued the interest of real car buffs. You can’t go a day without stumbling on something about the EcoBoost Mustang on some car site.
The latest we’ve come across are the numbers for one of the first tuners to beef up the output on the EcoBoost’s turbocharged 2.3-liter engine.
The stats come from the guys at SCT who have teamed up with Bama Performance to see how much more power they could squeeze out of the new Ford four-banger.
Noting that their stock manual EcoBoost Mustang came in at 231 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque, the SCT team managed to squeeze 35 more horsepower and 46 more lb-ft of torque out of the engine.
That’s a total of 266 horsepower and 334 lb-ft of torque, which yes, is still less than that stock 270 number that’s been swirling around, which SCT says is due to the ECU limiting the power output under certain conditions that causes a dip in horsepower.
The AmericanMuscle report notes that the SCT- and Bama Performance-tuned Mustang had gains throughout the rev range, leaping over the stock power curve as high as 75 RWHP and 58 RWTQ. It will be interesting to see what the EcoBoost will achieve with more tuning.
Now, Bama Performance will be taking a stab at SCT’s work to see how much more they can get out of an automatic model of the EcoBoost engine, which put down 271 horsepower and 290 lb-ft on a mix of 87 and 93 octane left in the tank, according to the report.
