School Is In - SVT StyleA group of young individuals from the McGill University Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team got a chance to get up close and personal with the performance minded collective at Ford this past May. In working with SVT’s Shaun Day, Chris Prahacs (faculty adviser to the McGill FSAE team, and former FSAE team member back in his day) and the group of students were able to spend a day at various locations, all in the name of adding fuel to their already burning automotive fire.

Shaun and Chris both met online through TheMustangSource.com Forums, which ultimately led to putting together educational based outings for the students.

The group started their day by viewing the extraordinary car collection of Ken Ligenfelter, which includes some rare Mustangs and other super cars, ones that most people may never lay their eyes on outside of the background on their PC (or Mac if that’s your preference). Following their super car high, they took a trip to visit the Mustang assembly line in Flat Rock, where all of the Mustang magic begins. Every Mustang on the road, started its life in this location. Following the tour, the group got some quality one on one Q&A time with Cheif Mustang Engineer Dave Pericak, and other lead engineers from SVT.

After the tour and the talks, the FSAE team rolled out their own racer they built to compete against other schools SAE teams. They had a chance to sit down with SVT engineers and discuss what works and what doesn’t, in hopes of gaining some valuable input to help the team take a win at upcoming events. They did achieve this goal, helping obtain a 31st overall place victory out of 120 teams competing.
