Saleen: A Look At The Man And His Special Mustangs

Back in 1984 a young road racer by the name of Steve Saleen would follow a dream and open his own company. Little did he know, that he’d forever change the face of performance Mustangs.

Saleen was an avid racer and a Ford fan as well, so it only made sense that he’d take the base Mustangs with the biggest motors and turn them into the kind of sports car he preferred: one with Race Craft suspension, better brakes, aerodynamic tweaks, motor mods and plenty of interior upgrades. Though only a handful of Saleens were sold during the first year, Saleen started campaigning his hot rodded Mustangs in SCCA, Super V and TransAm racing series. He claimed his first championship in 1987. From there, the company continued to do well through the SN95 and New Edge days on up to the S197 before eventually closing its doors.

Now after a hiatus, Saleen is back with a new S351 and to celebrate its great return, we found this American Muscle Car video documentary on Steve Saleen and thought we’d share. It’s an awesome flick and worth the watch.
