Rare 1969 Ford Mustang Convertible Packs a 428 Cobra Jet V8

The first-ever Ford Mustang has gone down in the pages of automotive history as a legendary muscle car. The model helped established the pony car segment as we know it today. Over the years, the entry-level variant of the first-generation Mustang became a highly sought-after model amongst the restomodding and tuner communities.

We have seen many eye-catching examples of the original pony car ranging from simple engine swap jobs to complete restomods. Recently, the YouTube channel, The Image Engine posted a behind-the-wheel video featuring is ‘69 Ford Mustang convertible which is powered by a 428 cobra jet motor. The car supports a breath-taking Candy Apple red paint scheme and was recently sold via the online auction website Bring A Trailer.

According to the auction website, this example is one of only 10 models ever produced that received this paint and soft top combination. Under the hood of this gorgeous convertible sits a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 engine which comes mated to a 3-speed C6 automatic gearbox. The powerplant features Edelbrock carburetors, and this particular example comes equipped with a 3.50:1 real differential.

The car only has 22,000 miles on the odometer and comes equipped with a power-operated convertible soft top. The car’s hood scoop is the highlight of this convertible Mustang’s front-end. The hood scoop is finished in a black color scheme which offers a sporty contrast to the Candy Apple red paint job adorned by the rest of the bodywork. This ‘69 Mustang 428 Cobra jet convertible comes equipped with a tilt-away steering column, a Philco AM radio, a rim blow steering wheel, and front bucket seats.

The interior features high back seats, which are wrapped in beautiful white vinyl that offsets the black carpets and dashboard. The sports car rides on 14-inch steel wheels, which flaunt a black tint. The sports car’s 7-liter Cobra Jet V8 was recently rebuilt, and the powerplant’s old cylinder heads were swapped in favor of brand new replacements.

This Mustang 428 Cobra Jet also gets an MSD ignition box, and the dealer included all factory components as part of the sale. The car was sold for a winning bid of $85,000 earlier this month.
