NY Bars with ‘Mustang’ Name Rev Up for Super Bowl

If you’re a Mustang fan rooting for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII — or not, then you’ll probably find this bit of information interesting.

The names of two of the most popular bars for Broncos fans in New York City appear to have been slightly inspired by the Ford pony car.

The biggest is a spot called Mustang Harry’s, which started gaining more popularity after the team’s success last season with the addition of four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning, according to a Colorado KWGN News report.

The bar/restaurant actually became popular after Broncos fans outgrew its older sister bar down the street called Mustang Sally’s, which is the second best spot in New York City to cheer on the Broncos this Sunday.

Founded by two brothers from Ireland in 1993, Mustang Sally’s was reportedly named after “The Commitments,” an Irish film about a blues band in Dublin that features the song “Mustang Sally,” which we already know was inspired by  the Ford Mustang.  The name used for the sister bar, Mustang Harry’s, was apparently derived from the New York movie “When Harry met Sally.”

Both NY spots, which feature a variety of different dishes on the menu ranging from potato skins to BBQ beef brisket, have already stop taking reservations for Super Bowl Sunday, according to news reports. But Mustang Harry’s says football fans might still luck up on some seats if they get there early.

That is unless you’re a Seattle Seahawks fan, who are being told that they might want to watch the game at another NY establishment.

Broncos fan Mark Moran, who lives in the area, is credited with helping to make Mustang Harry’s and Mustang Sally’s popular spots for fans who share a love for Denver’s orange and blue. Moran, who has used Facebook to promote both bars as spots for Broncos fans, credits his brother-in-law from Colorado to turning him on to the team in the 1980s.

“I’m also a Jets fan, but when you’re a Jets fan you often need another team to root for as well,” Moran told KWGN news.

Yup, you got a point there Mark.
