Nitrous Mustang Dominates Eighth-Mile at Lights Out 8
It’s refreshing to see a nitrous Mustang take the fight to turbo and procharged cars.
Dean Marinis is the guy behind the wheel of this big block 2000 Mustang GT. And by the looks of these runs, it is dialed right in. Not only is he consistent, but he smashes the competition.
Aside from one hiccup during a run in the video above, Dean keeps things consistently in the mid-to-low 4-second range, with trap speeds above 160 miles per hour. Racing against other X275 cars, Marinis lucks out twice, with a turbo Mustang having a poor launch, and a turbo Camaro also botching up at launch.

Getting a clean run on another turbo Fox Body puts Dean into the semi-finals. Then during the finals against a nitrous Chevy Nova, a 4.404 is enough to take home the overall win. Both the Mustang and the Nova are running a 582-ci V8 and nitrous up to the final round of x275 eliminations, so there’s obviously a benefit to that setup.
Lights Out 8 hosted several other styles of drag racing, as well, including Outlaw, Leaf Spring, Radial vs the World, and others. The “Cash Is King!” races were held at the renowned South Georgia Motorsports Park. We can’t wait to see how close next year’s races end up!
