NASCAR Driver Shreds Mustang Bullitt Tires at Hoonigan Playground
Most Bullitt Mustangs will probably be stored away like fine china. But this one would make Steve McQueen proud.
It pains us to say it, but most new Bullitt Mustangs will be stashed away as collector items. This has been the case in the past, and the past figures to repeat itself. People just love to scoop up limited-production cars like this and never drive them. Holding on to them like some sort of blue chip stock. So it was wholly refreshing to see this particular Bullitt being driven in a manner that would make Steve McQueen proud.
Of course, you probably guessed that already when you saw that this particular video took place at the Hoonigans‘ burn yard. But instead of hooning the brand-new Bullitt themselves, Ken Block‘s motley crew brought out NASCAR (and Mustang) driver Cole Custer to do the honors. Ford Performance supplied the shiny new 2019 Bullitt. And it’s undoubtedly going to need some new tires after this smoky session.
Aside from one of the Hoons incorrectly stating that the Bullitt has a “flat plane” 5.0, it’s a highly entertaining session. Once you get past all the chatter and get to the action, that is. Custer starts out with a prolonged, expertly controlled smoky slide. Which kinda makes us doubt his claim that he “barely ever does burnouts.”
Custer then walks the car around some obstacles in a slow drift, generating massive plumes of smoke along the way. Once he finally hops out, one of the Hoonigans gets his try and puts on an even bigger show. They stop short of completely shredding the tires off the car, but we’re guessing there isn’t much tread left now.
If nothing else, now we know that there’s at least one 2019 Bullitt in the world that hasn’t been babied like some viral star’s pet poodle. And that’s most certainly a good thing!
