Ford Mustang Ute Concept: Would You Buy One?
Super-hot ute rendering would be even hotter as a Shelby GT350 variant.
Hey, Ford Motor Co. If you’re looking for another spin on the Mustang, a Ute version might be worth considering.
After all, given the popularity of pickups, a new lighter variant bearing the great American nameplate that harkens back to the day of the Ford Ranchero (pictured below) could have a pretty significant draw.
That said, an artist by the name of Rain Prisk has cooked up a pretty cool Mustang concept with a lot of the functionalities of a pickup, that might just help inspire the Ford team. It’s quite a spin on the Ford pony car.

Of course, American sales for Utes sort of died by way of the Chevrolet SSR, which ended life in 2006 after only three years of production, due to poor sales. So, in actuality, the idea that Ford would resurrect the idea is probably slim to none. Though, we’re more inclined to take the approach of The Drive, who thinks a new Mustang Ute would look even better as a Shelby GT350.
There’s a thought, right? A track-focused Mustang that doubles as high-performance light pickup, with features like carbon fiber wheels and a removable top?
Then again, why not step it up to something like 700-plus horsepower and give that new Hellcat-inspired Jeep Grand Cherokee a run for its money? We’re sure the guys at Saleen or Roush would be willing to follow up with a higher-performance variant if Ford would take the official lead.
