Spy shots of what is believed to be the 2016 Ford Mustang GT350 have surfaced. It seems to confirm earlier rumors about exactly what Ford’s plans are for a higher-performance model of the new pony car set to make its debut next year. The photos of the camouflaged test car are, likely, are the first images of the rumored Shelby GT500 replacement. Left Lane news reports that
Yep, I’ m sure there’s more than a few Mustang fans still bumming over that news. But at least the new spy shots indicate that Ford isn’t abandoning its roots in performance in the push for the next-gen Mustang to have more global appeal.
Differentiating the newly spotted model from some of the other spy shots circulating the web are big wheels and tires, large disc brakes, quad exhaust outlets and extra air inlets, which all indicate that it’s likely a higher-performance variant of the standard Mustang.
Further confirming the suspicion that the car could be the GT350, is the fact that Left Lane reports that it was spotted pulling into Ford’s SVT facilities.
While there’s still been no official word from Ford about the GT350 Mustang, industry insiders speculate that the car will be equipped with Ford’s naturally aspirated V8 engine.
