Already raking in rave reviews for its performance attributes, the new Mustang is also earning quite a bit of respect in auto circles for its safety features.

The car earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) testing, which included five stars in the frontal crash test, five stars in the side crash test, and five stars in the rollover crash test.

The New Car Assessment Program is used by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to evaluate new vehicles for performance against safety threats.

Ford attributes the Mustang’s five-star ratting score to a number of features, like an all-new inflatable airbag restraint design and innovative semi-autonomous technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control and a number of driver assist features.
