Meet Louisville’s Most Feared ‘Mustang Man’
According to the report, Louisville Officer Clarence Beauford, who polices Kentucky’s Watterson Expressway and Interstate 71 in a grey Mustang, typically hands out more than a dozen tickets a day.
In fact, the officer, known by many as simply “The Mustang” man, admits to making anywhere from 15 to 25 stops a day.
Beauford even tells WDRB-TV that fellow officers have complained to him about giving their spouses a ticket.
“I’ve had officers say to me, ‘That guy will give his mother a ticket,’’ states the Louisville policeman. “Well… I don’t know that I would give my mother a ticket… I’m not very popular because no one wants to get a speeding ticket, but again, that’s part of my job.”
A 24-year veteran on the force, Beauford has given out more than 150,000 speeding tickets during his tenure with the department. And while the infractions have generated millions of dollars for Louisville, the officer seems to be genuinely driven by a concern for safety more so than stats.
No, seriously – he really does.
“Speed contributes to the severity of an accident,” explains Beauford in the news report. “The more speed the more severe the accident is going to be.”
The Louisville policeman, who has already racked up more than enough time to retire, says he’ll likely continue working another three to five years because of his commitment to safety.
Then again, maybe it’s the idea that Beauford gets to chase down speeders in a Mustang that keeps him around, which we here at The Mustang Source would certainly understand.
