Marlboro Racing Mustang Wrap Makes Smoking Cool Again

Surgeon General’s Warning: Coyote V8 may be bad for your rear tires’ health.

Look, we all know that smoking is bad for you. Three generations of American schoolchildren have been subjected to a staggering barrage of youth anti-smoking public service announcements. Still, it’s hard to deny that there is something undeniably cool — even sexyΒ — about smoking.

Don’t believe us? Take a look at historical racing liveries. Before cigarette advertising was banned in motorsports, many of the most iconic pant schemes belonged to cigarette brands. Rothmans, Camel, and John Player immediately come to mind, but for our money, Marlboro’s simple orangey-red and white scheme is the best.

Apparently, someone in Switzerland agrees with us. According to Auto Evolution, a Swiss Mustang fanatic has been driving around his 2014 GT with this Marlboro wrap. The wrap was applied at a tuning shop called R-Design, who is apparently also responsible for the S197 Mustang’s more subtle visual upgrades.

Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em

According to the owner’s Instagram bio, the Mustang has been lowered on KW suspension, and rides on Variant wheels shod with Toyo tires. You can follow the owner on Instagram @marlboro5.0. Quite the appropriate handle, don’t you think?

Until earlier this month, the Mustang wore its original Deep Impact Blue Metallic paint with pride. While that is one of our favorite S197 colors, we have to admit that we like the Marlboro wrap even better — no matter how bad it is for us.

As far as we know, the Marlboro Mustang is still stock under the hood. However, given that it’s rocking Coyote power, we doubt it needs much help on the mean streets of Switzerland.

We can understand the Marlboro theme. With 420 horsepower and 390 lb/ft of torque on tap thanks to that Coyote V8, this Mustang will make big white clouds of smoke on demand.

In this day and age, the S197s seem to be utterly ignored in favor of the S550 Mustangs. We understand why, but we really have been sleeping on the late S197s. All it took was seeing a cool, unique example like this to be reminded of how great they are.
