S550 Mustang: How To Improve Ride Quality
If your Mustang doesn’t have MagneRide, then you have no way to control your ride quality. See how the aftermarket can address that.
When you drive your Mustang daily, ride quality is very important. Ford did a fairly good job with the new independent rear suspension and factory shocks, but it is still a budget system. If they put all the research and development into the perfect shocks, they would cost quite a bit more.
In fact, the best ride quality in a stock Mustang is exactly that and it is the factory MagneRide suspension. The 2018 Mustang offers this suspension as an option, but if you did not select it what can you do?
Luckily, the aftermarket for Mustang parts is huge and there are many options. YouTube channel Late Model Restoration shows the install process of some Steeda Pro-Action adjustable shocks and struts. They can be used to work with your current stock or aftermarket springs allowing for the desired lower stance. These shocks are adjustable, and it allows you to decide how hard or soft you want your ride to be on the street. Then, you can stiffen them up for the occasional fun track day.

The host, Landan E. Durham, states that this system reduces or eliminates any choppiness, nose diving, and wheel hopping. The shocks are easily adjustable, with adjustment locations on the top of each shock and strut. These shocks and struts are a twin tube design. This means there is less fluid while maintaining the same pressure as a factory shock. Less fluid means less friction and stress on the internal components. For a weekend project, the Steeda shocks and struts look to be a good option, and they will fit all Mustangs from 2015 to 2018.
