HPE1000 Tune by Hennessey Adds Nearly 200 Horsepower to GT500

Hennessey has found an extra couple hundred ponies to shove into the GT500. They call their creation the HPE1000.

We know how it goes. You see the name Hennessey and you can’t help but see what they have come up with this time. The ever active tinkerers have created what you see here, a Shelby GT500 with a number of extra ponies. It’s called the HPE 1000 and in theory, is good for 1000 crank horsepower.

Hennessey throws a bunch of parts at the engine to get there. A number of parts surround the supercharger itself, such as an upgraded pulley drive and supercharger hub assembly and intercooler cooling brick. But that extra air from the supercharger needs the right amount of fuel. The HPE1000 adds upgraded fuel injectors, rails and lines to complete the package. Even the transmission is tuned to account for it.

If you’re looking at the industry standard of 15% drivetrain loss, the numbers prove it’s a 1000 horsepower motor. You won’t get that on 93 octane though, but you will on E85, which the car is tuned to handle. The pump gas will get you “just” 900 horsepower. Still not bad. Torque numbers are also rated at the crank, and stand at 850 lb/ft for the E85 method. Go with pump gas and you’re at about 800 lb/ft.

More incredibly, Hennessey offers a full warranty with the work, too. Three years and 36,000 miles of warranty backs up their claim of a reliable 1000 horsepower engine. Claims like that show us that we live in wild times indeed.

Other numbers aren’t as readily available, such as how quickly car will cover the sprint to 60 miles per hour, or send itself down the 1/4 mile. We’d imagine well below the stock GT500‘s pace of about 10.5 seconds or so. Though realistically, 1000 crank horsepower should almost easily get you into the 9’s with the right tire. After all, Hennessey themselves dipped in to the 9.5’s with their 1000 horsepower “Exorcist” Camaro.

Anyone willing to line up with an HPE1000 at the track? It would be quite a sight to see this car lined up with the tuner muscle cars from other garages.
