5 Widebody Mustangs That Can't Be Missed
Building a successful wide body Mustang is no easy feat. These 5 projects get it right on the money.
Wider
We all love Mustangs. Even the most diehard fans of other muscle car nameplates will admit that Mustangs are awesome. The rich history, the cutting edge of technology and performance with each generation, the beautiful V8 sound, and importantly, the powerful physical appearance. But how does one go about making the Mustang's imposing looks even more muscular? How about giving it more width and allowing it to spread its wings? The builders of these Mustangs had the same idea, and executed to perfection.

Matt Farah's 1988 Mustang LX
Let's start the list with one of, if not the most well-known Fox body Mustang in the world today. Matt Farah's wide body 1988 Mustang LX has been well-documented. Fitting the 2004 Mustang Cobra suspension system underneath the all-black body of the Fox body meant the fenders needed some widening. Although the flared arches are mostly functional, they certainly give the car a menacing, and instantly recognizable look.
1967 Mustang
The creation of this 1967 Fastback Mustang began when the owner, Rick Flores wanted to give it a proper restoration. This car has been in his family for decades, and he even learned to drive in it. During the restoration process, Muscle Rod Shop's Steve Enochs, who was entrusted with the work, came up with the idea for a wide body build. Flores was onboard and this amazingly integrated wide body Mustang was created. Amazingly, it sits 6 inches wider than the original.
1990 Mustang LX Race Car
The other Fox body Mustang on the list is this totally rebuilt racer. Unlike Farah's build, which is focused on bare minimum upgrades and cheap mods, this 1990 example has been built by Gary Watson of Creations 'n Chrome from the ground up to perform in all types of racing environments from road courses to drag strips. The wide body kit is simply a function of the vehicle's new race-ready specs and dimensions.
2016 Shelby GT350
Owned by veteran Naval surface warfare officer Tommy Liveoak, this 2016 Shelby GT350 has received an incredibly thorough set of body modifications courtesy of Ernie Sigala and his shop Sigala Designs. A 28-piece carbon fiber kit was designed specifically for this car, and the amazing quality of work landed the Shelby a spot at the SEMA Show.
1978 Mustang II
A remarkable makeover of the Mustang II, this amazing widebody build shows the world the potential of that less popular platform with a few proportional modifications. Brett Behrens approached A-Team Restoration with a visual of what he needed, as well as a description of his mechanical wish list. The project saw the ordinary 1987 Mustang II turned into a Triton V10-powered, widebody beast with an extended wheelbase, and hints of the 2005 Mustang. Who knew a Mustang II could be so attractive?
