Getaway Should Make for a Thrilling Ride in Shelby Super Snake
The Shelby GT 500 Super Snake takes center stage this weekend when the new film “Getaway” opens in theaters Friday Aug. 30, for Labor Day weekend.
The new Warner Bros. flick, which stars Ethan Hawk as race car driver, Brent Magna, up against the clock to save his kidnapped wife in a supercharged version of the Ford Mustang, was developed with 28 cameras mounted on the car to provide a 360 degree view of the action in and out of the vehicle.
Even more, a number of modified replicas of the Shelby super car were built specifically for the movie, which also stars Selena Gomez, so that actual cars could be used during the high-demanding action sequences instead of trying to cheat the scenes with visual effects.
An official press release for the movie notes that a total of 13 versions of the iconic car were trashed during the filming.
Ouch!
“You can’t go trashing real Shelbies every day of the week,” notes the film’s director and producer, Courtney Solomon, speaking of the steps taken to pull off the action in the movie, some of which is depicted in the trailer.
Yup, we definitely agree Mr. Solomon – so, here’s to hoping that the thrill is well worth the expense considering that just hearing about one Shelby GT500 getting damaged is enough to make most cringe.
