Foxbody SVT Cobra Brings Over $200,000 at Auction….Yes, Seriously

Low Mileage Foxbody SVT Cobra

Museum-quality Foxbody SVT Cobra has only 12 miles on the odometer and plastic still on the seats. Sure, it’s nice, but why bother?

We’re no strangers to negatively reacting to cool cars destined to never drive the way they were designed to be driven. Yes, we can admit that a very nice condition staple vehicle is cool. However, we always have to wonder what the point is if it’s just going to sit in an air-conditioned building. It’s not an old person watching Family Feud in a retirement home; it’s a performance vehicle. So, ultimately, while we’re happy to see such a pristine Foxbody SVT Cobra, it’s hard to appreciate this car in particular.

It recently sold on Bring A Trailer. With only 12 miles on the dash, it brought quite the final hammer price, too. For a cool $204,o00, someone is now the new owner of a Foxbody SVT Cobra that looks like it rolled off the factory line yesterday. Admittedly, we’re fully aware of the concept behind investing in a vehicle and are happy to acknowledge that this thing could someday be worth enough to make that $200k price tag look like nothing. We just disagreed with the concept, that’s all. At any rate, let’s give a rundown of this legendary Mustang.

Permanently Frozen in Time

Low Mileage Foxbody SVT Cobra Interior with Plastic

Finished in Teal Metallic over Opal Grey Leather interior, this Foxbody is pretty nice in spec. It’s got AC, sport seats, a limited-slip differential, and the Preferred Equipment Package. Of course, under the hood, it has the iconic 5.0-liter pushrod V8. Factory ratings of 235 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque make their way through a five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Of course, having the beloved manual transmission and all these lovely options doesn’t mean anything if they’re not used. We digress.

The interior is still wrapped in protective plastic. However, it isn’t clear if this is the original delivery protective plastic. We wouldn’t be surprised if it is, given the 12-mile odometer reading. As one might expect, tip to tail, this thing is perfect. How couldn’t it be? It’s never done anything.

$204,000 to the ‘Lucky’ High Bidder

Low Mileage Foxbody SVT Cobra Rear

The winning bidder, who goes by 04Mystic on Bring a Trailer, put in the winning bid at $204,000. Given the name of his account, it’s no surprise that he’s a Ford fan. In January 2024, he also purchased a Ford GT with only 1,400 miles on the odometer. So, at the very least, the car is going to an authentic enthusiast of performance Ford vehicles. As usual with these kinds of things, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that the new owner will at least consider taking it for a spin.

Ultimately, for us common folk, a $200,000 Foxbody is simply outrageous to consider. That said, when you’re operating on the level of wealth you’d have to have to throw that down on a Mustang, your mindset must be different. Perhaps, then, the only worry the buyer had was how many miles were on the odometer before they drove it to this parking lot to take photos. Who am I kidding? They probably trailered and pushed it.
