Ford rescue concept truck pressed into service to help tornado victims

Worse yet, many of the neighborhood streets were filled with debris ranging from roofs to cars and the big fire trucks couldn't maneuver through them.
That's when Brad Snyder, vice president of marketing at NewScope Marketing in Grandbury, Texas, got a call the Arlington emergency services director for help. The director knew the local volunteer fire department had advised Snyder on building an extreme rescue vehicle for Ford Motor Co. and now the city needed its help.
"When we proposed the truck to Ford, one of the things Ford required was that everything on the truck actually work," Snyder said Tuesday. That's not always the case with concept vehicles, which often could not even qualify to ride on a U.S. highway.
"We never intended to put it into service," Snyder said. But put it to work they did. Keep on reading to find out how.
Snyder personally got behind the wheel and taking it to some of the hardest hit spots in Arlington. Unlike the big fire-rescue vehicles, the F-550, powered by Ford's 6.7-liter Powerstroke diesel, was able to move through the rubble.

I dig it, but i see some definite flaws in its design.
Its stated to be a rescue truck and yes while most rescue trucks do have fire suppression equipment on board, that one they are trying to make into an engine replacement which it will never be. It doesnt have a very large tank, and that diluge gun on the front will eat up to 1000gpm (so figuring you have a 250gal tank, you do the math). the hose reel on the back is good, and the extra outlets. However for a rescue, you need all of your hydraulic tools in place and easily accessible, i dont even see a provision for that other than portable units, which now most of your rescues have all this built in with nice hose reels. they also state that its made for making it into areas where bigger trucks cant, i hate to say it but thats a fairly large truck in itself, and im almost positive you can get a single axle engine in 98% of the places you could that truck.
Now as far rescue, thats the perfect size, id love to have it at my department of course with some configuration changes.

I agree with Scott. Too much going on with that thing. If its a light duty fire vehicle let it just be that. If its a rescue vehicle than let it be that. This thing won't be really good at either because it's trying to be both. Only thing it might be good for is car accidents if the tank is full of foam for suppressing a car fire.

It is a concept . . . the story is not the truck itself, but the fact that it was able to be used in efforts to assist people. I am sure if a "dedicated" truck were proposed and NOT a concept it would adhere to a more logical approach.
I was just pointing out how overdone concepts are. And al is right throw a cafs tank on there some hydraulic lines for extrication tools and you have an awesome light rescue
