Ford: Sales Figures Suggest the Hatch is Here to Stay
http://wot.motortrend.com/ford-sales...tay-95875.html
Ford announced today that buyers shopping the Fiesta and Focus models are buying the hatchback models at increasing rates, a trend that could be extending to the rest of the industry. Ford claims that roughly half of Fiesta buyers are opting for the five-door hatchback and 41 percent are opting for the Focus hatchback, with the latter figure on the rise.
It’s a sign, Ford says, that more buyers are opting for hatchbacks when looking at economy car purchases. The assertion is backed up by some serious numbers, too: according to a 2010 Ward’s Auto World study, 13 percent of cars bought 2009 were hatchbacks, a serious rise over the 5.7 percent figure in 1998. Considering that a number of hatchback models have been revised or introduced to the market since that study was produced, we expect that the current number is even higher.

I still haven't seen a 3-door new Focus appear in Europe, will be interesting to see what Ford's doing in that space.
If 3-door Fiesta happens in the US I think it will be after the refresh, but I think I'd rather see Ford go really bold and roll out something like the Start concept in that roll.

Finally!
The hatchback version is almost always better looking than the sedan version of economy cars. More than that, they're far more practical and efficient in their use of space. There are things my MINI can transport that even a full-size sedan like a Camry.

Bring that hatch back in the Stang like my 89!!!!
I chose the Fiesta sedan over the hatch due to the cargo room. It's funny, the official Ford specs show the hatch with more cargo room than the sedan with the seats up. Maybe they are measuring from load floor to roof? Puzzling.
Anyway, looking to get a Focus S/W for my next ride.

I think some of this too are people trying to cut costs and save money on fuel but at the same time still try to maintain some level of utility. Sport utility vehicles are handy but they are hungry. With a hatchback you can still carry some stuff and almost always beat and SUV on mileage.
