Benefits Of O/D Off

So the other day I decided to press turn the O/D off on my handy dandy shifter. Immediately I thought I received a lot better throttle response when I did this. It was noticeably different when you mash on the gas from 40-45 to pass someone or something. The car seemed to settle around 2,000 RPMS in that 40-45 mph territory and I enjoyed hearing that beastly 4.0L V6 under the hood! So after a week of fun with driving everywhere with my O/D off I checked the gas mileage and found an impressive 23 mpg (90/10, city/highway) (the city was especially 'spirited' driving haha). However, I don't believe this. I figure I must not have filled it all the way up even though I made it "click" a couple times.

Soooo here's my question. Is this bad on my black beauty? I'm just nervous that if I constantly kept the O/D off during city driving that I might accelerate the wear and tear on such parts as the transmission. Or would you guys recommend me just turning the O/D off during those sparse 'spirited' jaunts across town?

**FYI It's bone stock**

od off in the city is the way I do it also. Your trans does less work not having to shift into 5th for two seconds before it has to down shift again for the red light.

I drive mine in this fashion too. Way to much for the tranny to keep up with around town. OD around town won`t give you any better mpg. I didn`t use OD getting up to this mountain pass either. Your first upgrade is an SCT X-CAL ll from Brenspeed, you`ll be astonished at what it will do for your auto trans.
