Time for new plugs

I have a 2006 Mustang GT. It's time for a new set of spark plugs. I am currently running Champion #7989 one piece plugs. My last two sets of plugs have been the Champions and I have not had any problems with them. I just wondered if any other manufactures have a one piece plug worth considering. If not, I have no problem going with another set of Champions. Going back to two piece plugs-out of the question.

I know Brisk racing also has 1 piece plugs, but their not platinum so more than likely you'll probably get 25k-50k miles rather than 100k like you'll have with champions..

Yea, I knew about Brisk, not interested in them. I thought NGK or somebody else also had a 1 piece plug. Oh well, I can always go back to Champions again. They've been doing a good job for me.

The only other 1 piece plug that I know of are the Brisk Silver. I'm not a fan of Champion plugs. I run the Brisk Racing 2 steps colder. I don't know how well the champions would hold up under boost but I used to fry the **** out of them when I ran nitrous. Had better luck with NGK. They are uber expensive and I change mine out every year. 2-piece plugs are only an issue if you leave them in there. You should pull and clean your plugs frequently, not necessarily change them, but at least inspect them regularly. This will not only let you know how your motor is running but will also prevent the carbon build up that makes these things come apart. I used HT1's and HT0's in my car and never even had one squeek when removing them. But that is with regular inspections and cleaning.

The Autolite is also a two piece. If you look at the pictures, you can see the separated sections compared to the Champion. It's at the 'step down' area, the other two have a clearly defined separation where the outer shell slips over the inner one, whereas the Champion it's all smooth and single piece.

Ive been using these E3 plugs since 2014 and haven't had any problems at all. Even though they're one piece (that's why i got them, not E3's marketing BS) , i still use nickel anti seize as a safeguard and treat them like the OEM plugs when I'm taking them out.

I don't know how you had better luck with NGK plugs when they were neither listed nor offered for the 2005-early 2008 4.6 3v cars.. The NGK plugs didn't become available until the 2008 4.6 3v models built after 11/2007 when Ford changed the spark plug and head design.. IIRC I believe NGK made plugs for the 2005-10 V6 models, but definitely not for the 4.6 3v cars prior to 11/2007..

I was comparing NGK to champion in general. No I never ran NGK on the mustang. Never run Champions on the mustang either. I was talking about previous cars/builds in my 35+ year driving career.

Okay, I didn't know you meant in general, as I misinterpreted your response to the OP regarding one piece plugs for the 4.6 3v.. Anyway I also have not used Champion plugs due to having to run one degree colder plugs and also read too many horror stories concerning misfire issues.. Brisk plugs have a short life expectancy compared to platinum and don't like them for that reason.. Being that I'm running FI/supercharged, my only other options are Ford Racing or Autolite HT0 plugs, in which I've been running the HT0's for over 2 years and have performed flawlessly despite being two piece design.. According to Autolite, they redesigned the plugs with re-enforced quality steel which are supposedly able to handle stress much better and therefore less likely to break inside the heads due from carbon build up.. IIRC as long as you apply high temp nickel anti-seize to the ground straps, they shouldn't seize up inside the heads.. At any rate, guess only time will tell one way or the other

Out of those 4 sets, how many are Champions ? The "OEM" motorcraft plugs are supposed to last 100k.. Therefore I don't understand the need for even 2-3 sets let alone 4 being as your car has 160k and the Champion plugs are double platinum and should last just as long as the factory motorcraft plugs IMHO

The first (OE) set were MotorCraps, then 2 sets of Champions, and the 4th set will also be Champions. I might wait a while to replace the present set with another new set of Champs.

Still don't understand why you've been through 2 sets of Champions.. If they're supposed to last up to 100k from being a double platinum spark plug.. You shouldn't need to replace them unless for some reason their life expectancy just isn't quite as long as Champion claims when compared to the factory motorcraps

I agree, I probably didn't need to replace the Champions as soon as I did. The car was running perfectly when I replaced them. I just was a little worried about leaving them in longer than I did, that they would seize.
