Sync3 update to 2.2 is out

Sort of... Backdoor action has the update for Navigation and Non Navigation equipped 2016 cars with Sync 3 v1.0 out and available for download on other Forums. (Fusion, F150, M6G)..

I did it and it works. I now have the capability to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay that Ford promised would be available by July 2016. PS: to use Apple CarPlay you still will need a new USB Hub ($55).

I can't believe they pushed back to official update again.... I am kind of skeptical for the leak update... have you noticed any sort of small bugs? I am just afraid that if I download the leak and then the official update comes out it will screw something up, but I might do it anyway lol

EDIT: Also, where did you download the update? I can't find it anywhere..

No Worries

This is official Ford SW update. Just that it was released for the 2017s and Fusions and F150s and Lincolns. No issues with it so far and none that I've heard of from the guys who are using it across the country.

Its easy to install. if you have a USB drive (FAT32). download the file and unzip it.
then copy the install file and the folder to the usb drive. Start your car plug in the usb and wait for it to tell you it's complete. 15 - 20 min.

FYI, since Ford is already offering this for 2016 Lincolns, you can download the files from Ford directly by adding a VIN for one of those to your Ford Account.

I thought if you used the host USB port under head unit you didn't need a dual role USB hub?

Nope. CarPlay requires the latest level USB Hub. That is the one in the 2017 Mustangs. You have to have the console mounted unit (single) then both (console and dash) will work with CarPlay provided you have updated to Sync3 v2.2.

preparing the USB files?

How do I unzip the files into the right "order" on my Mac? Tried to follow the instructions but the installation did not accept the file structure on my 2016 Mustang, running SYNC 3, 1.0

Ever since I installed 2.2 Android auto keeps crashing every few minutes. When I go to use the sync voice recognition I get an error message voice recognition not ready and I get that all the time.

Is this that leak or the actual confirmed update? I just checked the website and Ford ACTUALLY released the new 2.2 update. I have not yet installed it via wi-fi.

So I got a '16 leftover GT Premium Convertible with the GT Performance package in a 6 speed and it arrived 12 days ago.....

I updated the Infotainment system on Saturday from 1.0 to 2.2 and actually had to do it twice before it worked. I was able to download the update from the owner.ford.com website. It did not update over WIFI on its own, like it should have. The Android Auto application works pretty well, I would like to have the map available on the Sync home screen and not the current audio in the big section and a small section for the turn by turn.

Looking at the HUB that I need to Apple Carplay and not sure why we cant use the hub that has 2 USB ports on it instead of one, when replacing it. According to the Focus board, they claim if you us the 2 port hub in the center console it deactivates the one by the dashboard. They say you can only have 2 USB ports on the Sync3. I rented a Lincoln MKx 3 weeks ago and it had the front USB as well as a dual USB in the center console. I can't see Ford making multiple versions of Sync 3.

I have a non-nav version and tried to up Sync v2.2. I may have had incorrect USB size and have since bought a bigger USB sticks and reformatted the stick and moved the files over. However when i try to update system, I get Bad Installation File - One or more of the files being installed on your system did not install successfully. I tried to reset to factory but the install still fails. Suggestions?
