Install of a new Raxiom product by American Muscle

I am not sure how many of you are familiar with this new product carried by American Muscle and made by Raxiom. Its new and fits the 2010-12 GT and V6 models. I'm not sure about the production of this product for 13-14 models. Any questions in regard to that should be directed to American Muscle but I can tell you this. Wow, what an amazing looking product and my buddy and I just finished the installation.

This new Raxiom product is Day Time Running Lights which are LED's. Here is a picture off the AM website of the lights and I plan to give my full review and install pictures along with installation tips and suggestions shortly today. I just need to upload the pictures into my computer and write the review up! Stay tuned!

When I saw the day time running lights by Raxiom, I knew this was a must have for my pony. The installation from start to finish took me and my buddy (installer) approximately 3 ½ hours which is not bad considering it was the first time installing a kit of this type.

In my opinion, this install isn’t for a beginner in automotive repairs. This is a medium skill level install. The connection of wiring isn’t the difficult part for people who have wiring skills and knowledge; the tricky part is cutting into the bumper in order to fit the new DRL’s bezel size. Because this Raxiom DRL’S bezel is longer than the factory OEM bezel, this requires a small amount of cutting and trimming.

Should your cutting skills not be up to par, you could find yourself in the market for a new bumper. For those who aren’t afraid of using a Dremmel, or air saw/small hand saw, on their pony, then the hard part is over. Congrats, you’re almost done with the install.

The finish look on these Raxiom DRL’s is amazing. This Raxiom kit is beautifully put together and well-worth the exterior upgrade, especially for those who don’t have fog lights. The lights are LED’s and are extremely bright when the parking lights are not on. Remember, these lights are always on once the engine is engaged so during day light hours, and with the headlights off, these DRL’s are very, very bright.

I was amazed by the brilliant white light emitted by these two LED lights. The kit is wired to turn on automatically when the key is turned onto the on position even if the engine isn’t running.
Raxiom even went a step further and added this amazing second feature: when one engages and turns on either the parking lights or headlights the DRL’s automatically reduce its light output and dim. The DRL’s are still on however there just not as bright because at night time it would cause issues with blinding oncoming traffic.

Remember, these LED’s produce a brilliant white, bright light! The DRL’s fit flush up against the bumper. Raxiom did an impeccable job at making it look like an OEM finish.

Just a side note: The DRL’s won’t turn on until both sides are wired and connected into the light harness. Don’t get worried if after you install the first DRL it does not turn on. The second light has to be plugged into the light harness as well.
Since I’m basically worthless as a mechanic and working with wiring, the directions were a bit confusing. I had no clue what I was doing. I let my buddy who’s the pro do the install. I sat and marveled at his mad skills. I’m proud to admit I removed the engine guard all by myself along with the lower belly panel. Ha ha ha!

A full set of instructions come with the kit, but here are just a few installation tips:
Jack up the car a good six inches or higher and use either jack stands or place a 6 by 6 block of wood under each front tire. Turn the emergency brake on and place a piece of wood behind each of the rear tires. When removing the lower belly panel there are a total of 9 screws that need to be removed. Use a 7 mm socket.
Have control monitor hooked up for bench functional test prior to installation (testing DRL’s for them to turn on.)

The purple wire is for the illumination supply (next to fuse box in engine bay.)
The blue wire goes to the purple wire in order to illuminate lights. (Next to fuse box in engine bay.)

The control module box has three colored wires and are numbered the following: Black wire is 1, Red wire is 2, and Blue wire is 3.

The blue wire gets connected to the purple wire.
When cutting into the bumper please take your time. It’s better to make too small of a cut because moving forward and bigger is easier. Once the cut is too large, there isn’t any going back. Highly recommend using metal grinding bit to shave plastic down for a perfect snug fit after the original cut has been made with the Dremmel or air saw/small hand saw.

I’d like to make one small, friendly suggestion to Raxiom that would really help with the installation of this kit. The longest and most difficult part of the installation is cutting the hole out of the bumper to fit the DRL’s bezel. It took my buddy over one hour for the first cutting of the bezel, because the exact size was not known. Raxiom, please include some type of cutting template which will solve that issue of the cut size.

I give this product by Raxiom 5 out of 5 stars. The final product looks gorgeous! The LED’s color and brightness is amazing! I highly recommend this product for anyone who’s looking to make their front fascia stand out in a crowd.
I’d also like to thank my buddy Todd, who is the owner of T.S. Tint Works and Auto, for doing an outstanding job on this install. T.S Tint works and Auto handles automotive repairs, performance mod installs, window tinting, cleaning & detail services, glow wire installs, and electrical installs!

Wow, Great write up! I'm glad to hear that you're really enjoying the Raxiom DRL's so far. They really look great on your Sixxer and the fitment is perfect! For anyone with a GT, we also offer them: Raxiom Mustang Daytime Running Lights (10-12 GT). For the V6 guys, they're not live on the site just yet but they'll be up any day here now!

Great work with the installation and let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future! I know I speak for a lot of people on the forum when I say thanks for the detailed instruction guide. This was really helpful and painted a perfect picture of how long the installation should take!
