6 Gauge Cluster to 4 Gauge Cluster 2005-2009 S-197 Gen 1 Backwards MyColor Swap!

Greetings TMS and happy holidays,

I have never been a fan of my My-Color set up and only use one light setting. Since buying the GT/CS I have always thought the lighting was either extraordinary dim or I had an actual issue with the lights. I ran across a real good condition Roush Cluster taken from a 427R, made by Simco. From what I can tell it is the same as what was in my 2005 Sport model except for the Premium Fuel sticker. Will it work?

I'd like to get ride of my 6 gauge my-color gauge and consider putting in this Roush Gauge as a replacement. My questions is can this be done as a simple plug and play swap? I know I'll be losing two gauges and the use of my 3 button switch on the center dash. More importantly though, is will the gauge function correctly without out any issues? I know the mileage will be off, unless I drive mine to match or have it calibrated. More or less I'd like to have my 6 gauge removed and the 4 gauge added as a plug and play.

Just a thought and I see a lot of 4 to 6 gauge questions but not the other way around.

on another note,

same place that is offering the Roush 4 Gauge is also offering an SVT 6 gauge... If I am not mistaken this one would have to be re-calibrated for my system wouldn't it? Or is that even possible?

Cheers and thanks in advance,

Nemi

I did the 4 to 6 gauge swap. I don't see any reason you can't do 6 to 4, you already know the losses. I sent my cluster out to have it read the correct mileage and that was several years ago. Don't think I would worry about it if I had to do it now.

Hey Hobojack,

I bit the bullet and just bought the cluster. I will know how it works soon enough. Pretty excited for it as the indiglo Roush Gauges are just way easier on the eyes. Thought I could grow to love the my-color but just couldn't enjoy the dull read out.

The Roush Cluster has a bit more mileage than mine. I'll just drive mine until it reaches the same and swap them out. I did that years ago for an F150 and it worked easy enough.

Thanks for the feedback,

Cheers

UPDATE:

The Roush Gauge cluster arrived in good order. Shame on me for not remembering this from when I had the 2005 Sport, but upon un packing I promptly realized that these gauges use additional wiring for lighting the indiglo.

Anyone have any idea where I might locate the needed harness and module for this?

Essentially I need everything from this plug to to the light switch.

Thanks in advance,

Roush 427R gauge cluster lighting plug.

UPDATE:
S
So I finally got everything worked out with these Roush 427R gauges. Shipped them to SImco and for a nominal fee the replaced the missing inverter, added 3 feed of harness for the switch and tested the EL panel. All checked out. Once I received the gauges back I directly sent them over to Instrument Cluster Store (ICS) and have them calibrate the correct mileage. All said in done this project might have cost a bit much for most but the end result is I couldn't be happier. Installed them last night and everything works as if it came that way! The EL is way easier to see over the my color.

300 for the gauges (Ebay)
165 for Simco
150 for ICS

615 for a set of gauges is a lot when you add it up. LOL. I probably could have went with any 10$ inverter and some wire and got the same result... Oh well, in the end the car will be exactly the way I want it. Now if I could only find some EL panel Auto Meter gauges for the Shelby dash pod? Hmm,

Cheers TMS and thanks for looking

Greetings Joey,

Total shipped there, repaired nd back to me was 165 for Simco. Might be less since it sounds like you just need the inverter. I was missing the harness so that was extra.

Thanks
