My grandpa was a steam locomotive engineer on the St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) and ran out of the Jonesboro, Ark yard. So my Dad wanted to share that with me since he grew up around them. There's a great Museum of Transport in StLouis County and for some reason Dad would always take us on Mother's Day. Never figured that one out. lol
My other side of the family were farmers and railroaders on the MoPac and the Katy. So that's my connection to Know what a track walker is?
My uncle was a dispatcher on the Illinois Central/Bloomington.
I grew up wanting to be an engineer on freight trains that hauled through the mountains and snowy passes. The closest I got was as a coffeeman/route driver through the Cascades with several 5000' passes. Plenty of times I was the first one over the passes without the plows yet. The view out the windshield was awesome! Close enough, dream fulfilled!
