I never eat fast food...Subway at the most and as far as dinner I never go out...
my dinner routine is pretty repetitive....
steak every saturday
fish on friday
ribs/chicken on sunday
leftovers monday because who wants to **** with cooking on monday?
tuesday, wednesday, thursday are usually 1 pasta, one meal with hamburger meat, and one poultry......something like that

Yeah I eat pretty healthy - on a budget. But with freezer space, taking advantage of regional store sales, you can buy the protein pretty reasonably. My 17# turkey was $4 & change. The 14# in the freezer was less than $4. Beef loin/NY 4.53/#, Pork loin 2.19, whole Chicken .87, Steelhead or salmon $6.99/#, frozen Cod 3.99. That leaves extra funds for a lot of fresh produce.
As a bachelor, I make a kind of party out of it
and make enough to last about 3 days. That way I only cook a few times a week and warm up the rest. 
Fast food is rare and probably a pizza or onion rings at the pub.
