Hidden front license plate advice
I'm getting sick and tired of looking at my front plate when I show the Mustang.
Looking for pics, advice, recommendations on a stow away plate bracket similar to this:
https://lmr.com/item/LRS-1314LPF/Mus...et-13-14-GT-V6
If anyone uses this type of set up, any chance you can measure the clearance from the ground to the retractable bracket with the license plate in it's proper position? In other words, when I exit or enter the driveway the plate will show until I get to an event...then I'll hide it. I'm concerned about ripping off the bracket.
As far as the existing mounting holes in my bumper, I'd get plugs to fill them.
After my driveway fiasco and repairs last March, this is what I'm dealing with now. What you see is the maximum clearance I have....tight, but no scraping. The further back underneath that the bracket could go, the better the chance of no interference with the driveway apron.
As always, thanks in advance.

Not sure how much help this will help, I have one of those for mine when I needed a front plate in New York. I got the one specifically to work with the Roush splitter though and most of it tucked up under the splitter. I no longer have the bracket on my car so I can't measure the ground clearance but it only hung below the splitter about a 1/4", just enough for the rods of the bracket to slide into the mount.
For what it's worth I had no issues with mine and didn't have problems with clearance. You might be pretty **** close with that incline.

I don't care about damaging the bracket underneath when the plate is in it's required position. I just want to avoid ripping it off when I'm getting in or out.

Take a look at these. I have one on mine and it is easy to pull off and put back on to keep Johnny law happy.

Not sure if it will meet your clearance issues, but take a look.

It looks like I might have enough clearance with the bracket, but the license plate appears to hang lower than the vertical mount. I should be able to jury rig something and raise the plate so it doesn't scrape.
Thanks again.

Tommy boy, why are you pulling straight into your driveway in the first place?? First order of business for driving a low/lowered car is to angle it! Come in with the right front tire first, like you're pulling in to parallel park on the street. Let the right front touch the driveway parallel and go up a little, then cut it all the right so it's perpendicular and just slowly let the clutch out so it creeps up the driveway. I have the Roush chin and a much steeper driveway, and if I go slow, I don't scrape anything. The bags help, but even before when I was on the H&R springs I didn't scrape.

I usually don't. I staged that pic last year after the apron and sidewalk repairs to illustrate max clearance issues. But sometimes I need to pull in straight depending on how close to my driveway the neighbors park. However, I'm always cognizant of how little daylight I have under the front bumper when entering my driveway.

Tom, it looks like the diameter of the rod is the amount your clearance would be reduced by. Maybe shaneyusa can measure this diameter for you and you could put together a test dummy. I was thinking maybe tape a wooden dowel of the right size under your bumper and see if you can get out of your driveway with it intact.

I installed a powered Show n go on my 11' GT/CS a couple years ago after several stops by the WSP.
They stopped me again awhile back, I'd forgotten to punch the button on the key fob when we left home. When she made a Uee behind me I figured it out and pushed the button. Sure enough she said she stopped me because I didn't have a front, I explained I'd forgotten it but it was up now, of course she didn't believe me and had take a look. She said she'd never seen that before, good to go, no ticket.
I get lots of smiles and comments when I park in front of a restaurant window and hide the plate before I get out. After all an old Electrician has to have an electric license plate.
Ground clearance is a concern though.
The photos are up and stowed.

I studied photos of the bracket carefully and there just might be enough clearance for the hardware. But it looks like the actual license mount plate might extend below the two rods and if there's a clearance issue, that's where it'll be. I'm hoping that I can modify the plate backing if that's the case. I might know today....I got a delivery notice.

Very cool. I've seen similar set ups at shows. That's a good price too. I've seen more expensive ones but I didn't want to commit to an electric unit because I couldn't be sure if the extra hardware and power mechanisms would present even further clearance issues. The one I bought cost $80 and won't be difficult to swallow the loss if it doesn't meet my needs.

Sounds like you got one? If you want pic;s of under the car I can try and get some this weekend. I have some pics of how it mounts that were posted on this site, but they really do not give a good view of the clearance change.

Yes, installed it last weekend. The bracket that mounts under the car (the one with the female tubes) gave me plenty of room. But the license plate frame and surround that was on the bumper originally was designed to mount dead center on the triangular plate which would have meant overhang and clearance problems on the bottom. I had to drill new holes in that plate and the surround so the removable section would mount higher. The bumper plugs are a little of an eyesore, but it's a compromise I can live with.

Interesting... I did not think of mounting on the side. Looks good! Just curious though, why did you use the OEM frame with the the Big Mike mount? Looks good, but I just used the mount and the big plastic mount from Ford is on a shelf.

For one thing I think it looks neater. More importantly it allowed me to mount the Ford frame higher up on the removable mount so that the license plate assembly wouldn't scrape the entry to my driveway. It just required drilling two holes in the triangular Stowaway plate and mating the plastic Ford frame to it.
