Ditching license plate panel

I'm not a fan of the textured louvered plastic license plate panel since dirt/dust sticks into the textured plastic. I ordered the trufiber panel from American Muscle they had on clearance + an additional 10% off. I will post pics of it installed this weekend.

I was thinking of going this route along with the carbon decklid as well. Interested to see this.

I might order an extra one and have it smoothed out by my old audio shop, then painted gloss black. I love CF, but I don't want it on this car.

I thought about trying to smooth mine out, but its too much work and this will do the job for 160 bucks.

That panel kept me from ever even considering a '13/14. Didn't know there was a something out to 'fix' it.

I'm not a fan of CF, but I would totally get a painted version of this.

Depends on the vinyl direction I go, but I thought about painting majority of the plastic parts matte gunmetal. Stripes would also be matte gunmetal.

What's ridiculous? It destroys the entire rear end of the car for me. We're in the United States. We don't have giant European license plates.

I just did this upgrade yesterday. No instructions in box or on trufiber's site. They are offering $150 for a video or the install. Problem is installing this is easy, remove both tail lights to gain access and bend clips to keep tight. EASY!
Now the hard part, removing the factory panel. It has plastic clips that the center of need to be pressed in. No luck by hand and very little room to get to them. I used a small angle pliers, small 1/8" regular screwdriver and a small pick set. Between them all I got it done. If I had not already drilled to mount the plate to the new one I would have sent it back. Lost count of how many times I said WTF!
It was worth it in the end. Just drill for the plate before you start! Good luck.

Carbon Fiber has never been my thing, sadly. I see cars laden with it, and it just looks bleah to me.

I wish I could get something for the black radiator expansion tank that ISN'T carbon fiber. I'd be all over it.

From what I have read, steps are
Remove license plate
Remove license plate light housing
Insert trim removal hook into plate holes, pull back and top off panel should pop out
Disconnect light wires and pull the lower panel to release the clips and panel.

Can you post a pic at an angle? I want to see how the decklid lines up with the tails...

Looks good. Did you just drill through the CF and use screws to attach your plate.
