Most definitely one of my favorites as well, Steve! My favorite body style of all time is the 67-68 Mustang fastback followed by the 65-66 fastback and finally the 69-70 fastback.

Used to Have Local Guy Jack Green Who Was A 1st Gen Expert and Restorer. He Would Buy Parts From Me Back in the 80's When You Could Still get a Lot. He Had a Black Gt Just Like The One Pictured and He Put Every Available Factory & Genuine Ford Accessory He Could Find. For Example a Cable Operated Remote Trunk Release! He Put The Car Up For Sale and Could Not get The Bucks and Out of Frustration Took The Items Off and Sold Them. Would Have Loved To Have Had That Car!

Later On I Got Him Hooked on the Sn197's And He Ended Up With a Shelby Gt For a Daily Driver and a Gt-500 Kr He Let Me Drive. He Was Legendary in Our Area as The Man For The Early Mustangs, He is Missed!

He Knew Shelby and Likely a Lot of Other Heavy Hitter Mustang People!

He Was a Good Man & I am Friends With His Son Brian Still to This Day. He Actually Worked with me at Razzari Ford in the 90's

Remembering Jack Green

Here is His Obit! He Is Missed!

MGB,

I sure would have loved getting a hold of your friend, Jack Green's "66" Mustang GT as well... I do a friend of mine who both owns and restored a Black "65" fastback non-GT which he also had his original 289 bored into a 347 stroker...

My friend's 65 black Mustang w/347 stroker

Yup, Those versions of the Gen 1 cars are really tough to beat. They set the standard... I too rank the 67-68 as my favorite. But hey, I would not turn down an opportunity to inherit anyone of them.

I wouldn't turn down an opportunity to inherit anyone of them either... Before purchasing my first S197 the "05" GT, I previously had a Black "93" SVT Cobra which was my 3rd Fox body Mustang I had owned.... As much as I enjoyed my time with the Cobra, once I saw how much the S197 Mustangs strongly reminded me of the first generation 65-70 models I had admired from my childhood, I did not hesitate for one moment to trade-in the Cobra, as that was the sacrifice it took in order to become an owner of a retro-styled Mustang that I honestly thought I'd never see become a reality in my lifetime... So, in the end, the sacrifice of trading-in the "93" Cobra made it all possible to become an owner of a retro-styled Mustang that I was hoping Ford would finally build and had been waiting for well over 40 years...

Looking back after 18 years later, the sacrifice was well worth it, and haven't regretted it ever since ...
