Black and gold is probably the prettiest but personally i like the white with blue stripes and white with red stripes.

The 1978 Cobra II stripes are a bit louder than I would like for a daily driver, but it would be neat to have mine restored in its original black exterior with the tricolor red decals.

In 1978 there were also tricolor gold decals available for black cars, and tricolor blue, and tricolor green decals on white cars (along with the tricolor red).

A non-stock combination that would look neat would be a black car with the tricolor green decals. There was actually an early Fox Cobra ('79?, '80?) with that combo and I think it was really sharp (if a little loud ).

On the Ghia side I like the Sport group with the Midnight Blue exterior, Chamois half-vinyl roof and Chamois interior.

I love the Tangerine exterior color, (but only with a black interior) on either a coupe or hatchback with all the spoilers.

The Metallic Chestnut color is great with either a tan or Chamois interior. Its got to be the most attractive brown paint ever made.

The two-tone Stallion paint is really a classic. In fact Boyd Coddington was selling an identical paint scheme on a custom 2003 Mustang.

Most of the articles that I have seen from 1975-1977 showed it did the quarter mile in 17-18 seconds at about 80 mph. Pretty bad by any standard. (I wonder what the same year Camaro did with its 150 hp 350 engine?)

I've had a really hard time believing these numbers. All I can figure was that they tested with a gas mileage rear (2.79 or 3.00 to 1) instead of the available Trac Lok 3.55:1 rear. Plus they probably used the auto instead of the 4-speed.

The 139 hp from the factory is a bit misleading too. Its not a race engine by any stretch of the imagination, but it has plenty of torque for the size of the car. The wheezing 302 in my CBII would smoke tires around turns if I wasn't careful.

I've seen a MII 302 that made 190 hp at the rear wheels on a dyno with a mild cam, headers, 4bbl carb and intake with the stock emissions heads. The whole 139 hp thing was forced on Ford by the need to raise the CAFE and lower emissions.

At the risk of being severly flamed I find that the Mustang IIs look more like a mustang than the 79-93s. I never cared for the fox bodies because they didn't look like mustangs to me. No tri-bar tail lights, no side scopes. The Fox looked more like a 1980-1983 200SX (See below) than a Mustang.

Although it didn't have the performance, at least the Mustang II had the traditional Mustang look.

Plus, Farrah Fawcett drove one.

StangII--What a engine! Can you post a picture of the whole car?

Here's one of my favorite IIs -- The Kemp racer.
