King Cobra.

Here is my King Cobra.

It is all original and I am starting a restoration soon. This car has the original T-Top and the base interior. I've been told most King Cobra came with the luxury interior and apparently mine would be a rare one.....Maybe.... A funny fact is that the 2 options, the King Cobra Package and the T Roof were about the same as the base price of he car.

Well even if it ain't rare, these Mustangs were the reason why Ford is still building Mustangs today. They were fun to drive and helped keed the Mustang spirit and name popular (and profit)

It has the 5.0 l engine and a 4 speed transmission with the posi diff. Sway bars all around.
It is not a fast car but a fine auto with a muscle car feeling. Anyway in 78 no production cars were.

It's got 120000 miles on it in 32 years so all engine seals have dried out. When it run for more than 20 minutes,it looks like a smoking parlor on a friday afternoon.

Your Mustang is rare, because not that many II's have survived. So many went to the scrap heap. That alone is a good reason to preserve your car. Keep it as original as possible, if you ask me.

Great piece of Mustang history you have there! When you get going, start a restoration thread with lots of pics!

Also the reason ford tried to kill the mustang in the 1st of 3 attempts, so there were/are mixed feelings about the II. Keep it as original as possible, as said before not many have survived.

signmike, Welcome to the forum from Flintville Tennessee. Nice King Cobra! If memory serves me correctly, there were 5318 King Cobras produced. As others have stated keep it as original as you can. There was an article in MM recently that featured a guy with something like 11 or 14 II's. He might be a good info resource. kennyg

Indeed, this will be a nice project when complete. Here's a photo I shot last year in Steamboat Springs at the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup.

And one of my old rides from the late 70's. This had the 2.6 with 17 psi of turbo boost.

Those wheels look so tiny compared to the rest of the car.
