Here's the deal...

the good-

$250 canadain (about $200 us) (saw on mustang II site car in this cond should be about $1000 us)
1978 II V6 coup
body good shape (very little surface rust and straight)
interior good cond (need drivers seat redone)
runs (motor sounds ok)

the bad-

chestnut brown exterior/brown interior
tranny is auto , in drive will only go into 1st/2nd not drive
showning fair amount of oil grim under motor
unknown miles (would figure a fair amount)
where i live will need something called aircare (must meet emmision standards)

advice i got from local mechanic (guy is good and does know his stuff)-

told me to stay away (said getting parts would be way to $$$,and tranny alone would be at least $700 cdn)

what you guys think?

photo of what car could look like if i put in a fair amount of $$$

IMO, i thikn you should go for it. you dont see many IIs around and they're seldom wought after. we need people to start saving the IIs. if i were you and i had the cash to get it at least to good mechanical condition, i'd go for it.

good luck in whatever you decide to do

Thanks for the replys guys...

I did some more research and found that the tranny would be just too much to either replace or recondition...im getting prices anywhere from 700 to 1000.I guess i might of still gone for it,but having hard time getting past that chestnut brown color.

ps: i could always change my mind still (if car is still for sale) so will keep updated if i have a change of heart...

Unless you must absolutely have one right now, wait.
Are you looking for a daily driver that's mechanically sound, or a project car?
Do you want a 302 or will a 4- or 6- be ok.
Most of the time V8 cars need a total overhaul to drive, or are finished show cars. I don't see many that fall in the middle as a solid daily driver.

hispony:

dont really care what motor it has...a v4-v6 would be just fine...not really looking for a daily driver (use the solara for that---turning into a 06 stang next fall),but would like to find a II that i can have for weekend drives to the beach...i know the II's are not that well thought of,but ive always really liked them...so ya ill keep looking and wait for one thats in a bit better condition, and anything but brown... lol
