1976 mustang II

I have recently looked at a 76 mustang that is covered in rust, interior is dead, it has a motor but no guarantee it will even turn over, what should I offer.

They should pay you to get it out of their yard.

I got a soft spot for those too but I'm sure they are not keeping it around as an investment. I would flash maybe $200 tops in their face. But that's about it from your description.

Well we flashed 300 and she acted insulted, I beleave she is going to be the type that thinks its worth into the 1000's because its older and has mustang branded on it. It is suposidley 302 4speed and I wasn't sure if that changed any of the pricing, and the outter body looks to be bone stock. But I'm not sure just how solid the car is, the door seals were gone and they were beyond damp when I sat in the car and they were a bit spongey I know that the metal isn't that thick but it makes me wounder what is under the carpet. We work with the woman and I have made up my mind if she wants to much that I will go looking for an actual cobra if I'm gonna spend money out like that, we have no idea what it will take to get it running and driving, could be nothing could be in the thousands. I appreciate anything that anyone can tell me about the pricing for these cars because I haven't dealt in the mustang II yet.

You hit it on the head, a couple hundred max. They aren't really collectable only to a limited croud so that basically leaves the motor and suspension that are worth anything at all. And even yet if that is all your after it sucks having to take a whole car if that's all your looking for. Plus like you said you don't know if it's dry and wont turn. You can pick up a cobra for around a thousand if you look around. I wouldn't even pay her if I was in your shoes, If you pull it out they should just let you have it

That's one of those cars that will sit in the yard and rot for another 10 years. People don't take what they can get because they think it's something special. I know of a few really good cars that were not for sale 20 years ago and now cannot be sold.

It makes me sick that people will let them rot to the gorund like they do, I would rather see someone take it and restore it than to watch it rust like that and deteriate like garbage, that aint love thats being a dumdass.

I'd walk on that one.

I let me Galaxie go for about half of what I put into her - and I think I got a great deal! Besides, some doctor wanted her because he used to have one so I know things would turn out great.

IMO - you should save your pennies and get one that doesn't need a near complete overhaul. You'll be money ahead in the long-term, unless restoration is the journey and not the destination.
