I normally don't expect much enjoyment in western NC in late Feb. Today was an exception even without many leaves on the trees. Highways almost empty. Tourists and summer home folks start getting here around April.

We had almost 3 feet in N Ga near the state lines (you can imagine what that did in an area not equipped to deal with snow) 50-60 mph winds, and 0 temps the next morning. Parts of the Smokies like Mt Leconte got 5-6 feet IIRC. I didn't have power or water (have a well) for almost 2 weeks.

Locals still talk about that 'back to back' weekend event. About 2-3 feet of snow total. That was now 30 years ago and we were still in Florida. The prior owner of this home said they had no power for two weeks.

You guys think the Blizzard of "93" was a disaster... That was nothing compared to the Blizzard of "77" that plummeted Western New York with 30 feet of snow with wind gusts ranging from 46-69 MPH... It was the worst blizzard to hit the Western New York region in history, followed by the recent blizzards during Thanksgiving week just this past November and again during the Christmas holidays this past December...I still remember the Blizzard of "77" back when a high-school senior as temps were below zero while wind gusts were well over 45 MPH... I remember attempting to walk nearly 2 miles to the nearest convenient store to purchase a pack of cigarettes but had to turn back not even halfway after being exposed to the extreme wind and temp conditions... My eyes nearly froze shut and was fortunate enough to make it back home as a direct result... Needless to say, the events that took place during the Blizzard of "77" is something that I will never forget no matter how many years have since passed!

Must be the same system as the wind was way too strong for us too. I've been picking up tree limbs and sticks all morning. Always scary at night with the house making all kinds of objections (noises).
