The Shelby Ford Mustang GT350 is Ford’s gift to the common man. It’s a 500-plus horsepower track-decimating monster that all costs less than a brand new Chevy C7 Corvette. It’s as fast as a Porsche 911, and it is faster around the infamous Nurburgring than Chevy’s Camaro Z/28 hellion. It is, in every aspect of the word, an absolute beast.

But just what makes this awesomely ridiculous car so special? Is it the carbon wheels? The carbon panels? The manual-only transmission? Or is it the car’s 5.2-liter flat plane crank V8 engine that gives the Mustang a more European feel? We’re definitely thinking it’s that last one. But don’t discount the others either.

The Shelby Ford Mustang GT350 is a sum of all its parts, and without one of them, the rest would falter and produce a car that’s only marginally better than a stock GT Mustang. To help illustrate this point, and to showcase the GT350’s lovely engineering, MotorTrend‘s Jason Cammisa takes the big brute out and puts it through its paces on this week’s episode of “Ignition.”
