The pilot of Ole Yeller, Bob Hoover, passed on last week at age 94. He was a true legend of aviation, escaped a German prison camp and flew to friendly territory in a stolen Luftwaffe fighter plane, backup pilot for lifelong friend Chuck Yeager when he broke the sound barrier, test pilot, race pilot, and mind-boggling airshow pilot. Go to youtube and search for Bob Hoover pouring iced tea. People who ought to know called him the greatest stick and rudder pilot ever. Clear skies, Bob.
