Need guidance: How do I disassemble the plastic steering housing?

I need to please ask for some technical assistance with a project which I am most likely overthinking. I need to be able to open the plastic housing for the telescoping steering column which is in the cabin. I do not wish to remove the wheel, if I can possible help it. Instead, I only want to be able to separate the (what appears to be) plastic upper and lower halves of the fairing which cover the telescoping mechanism. Why? Because I want very much to be able to dremel out a very small slot for a magnet which will be bolted onto the underside of the bottom plastic piece. Once this is in place, I can then put the whole thing back together and discreetly attach a removable sensor to the underside of the column. While I have found several good video tutorials on how to remove the wheel itself, I have not yet found anything which shows how to disassemble the plastic housing behind the wheel. I had inspected this and found a Torx T15 screw which I thought might be the starting point for this process, but removing it didn't get anything else to budge. There's also a much deeper seated hex nut further down the plastic, but I didn't want to touch that yet until I was clear on whether this might be relevant. Does anyone have any information on this and could please assist me? Sadly, I'm not even familiar with which part numbers these are yet... (I only just got the car recently.) Thank you for any guidance which you may be able to give!

Don't know the answer but FWIW removing the steering wheel is not a big deal. Disconnect the battery or remove air bag fuse, release the air bag by sticking a small screw driver in a hole in each side of the wheel, unplug the air bag and controls cable, and unscrew one bolt in the center.

Looks like after removing screws you use a plastic pry tool to separate the two halves. Their fasteners are molded into the two halves. Don't try to separate in cold weather {winter} without warming parts up first or you my break the clips.
