Mustang smoke problem, dealership couldn't help me.
So I have a big problem with smoke coming out of my 2017 Mustang GT. It will randomly occur when I am driving the Mustang around. It usually occurs more when I'm driving in the city starting and stopping constantly. It has never happened to me whenever I just have the vehicle idling.
So basically what is happening is at times, smoke will come into my car through the AC vents and it smells like either burning rubber or burning oil. The oil levels in my engine are fine, the cylinder head temperature is fine, but the smell keeps randomly occurring and the dealership wasn't able to figure out what it was.
The first time I took it in, the dealership replaced and oil gasket and valve, and was able to identify the problem. They said that oil was leaking onto my exhaust pipe causing the smell and replaced a gasket and valve. However, a week later the same problem kept occurring. I took it back to the dealership, and they were unable to identify the problem because it only happens randomly when I'm driving around. I have no idea what it could be, and I am pretty much out of luck because the dealership can't identify it either. It has now been 2 months since this problem started, and it keeps progressing. It occurs the same amount of times it did in the past. It hasn't gotten any better or any worse.
Any thoughts on what the smoke could be? It comes out of both the vents and the hood when the AC compressor is turned on, when it's turned off, and when the heater is both on and off. Every single temperature setting or compressor setting I have it on, the problem still occurs. I believe it is independent of both of these because turning one on or off doesn't change the problem rate of occurrence at all. It's coming from the driver's side of the hood, and then smoke blows into my car through the AC vents and smells like burning rubber/oil. I really don't want my mustang to become damaged because of this.
Here's where the smoke is coming from looking from inside the car. It's hard to see the smoke in this picture, but it's there. This smoke also comes out of my AC vents as well.
Here's another picture of where the smoke is coming from with the hood open. It is coming from the driver seat side of the hood. It's hard to see in the picture as well, but it's there.
Could it be coming from a leak in the brake(clutch) fluid?
Check to see if there is anything on the bottom of the white container in your circle. Check the hose as well. Possibly a small crack, split, pin hole or something like that only leaks when under pressure. I had that happen on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee's power steering, Pin hole in the hose, it was a tough one to find. Did not leak enough to notice much change in the levels. It would send a small shot of fluid across the engine when under pressure. Just happened to check with a pressure test and wa- lah, there it was.
Welcome to TMS. The Original Poster Was in & Out Back When He Posted this. I Did a Mention Which Should Send an Email & He May Return or May Not. Is Your Issue Exactly as Described in Original Post???? If Not Further Description Would Be Helpful. Was Any Repairs or Engine Cleaning Etc. Done Right or Shortly Before Issue Started???? Sights,Smells,Visuals???
Yes, the post describes exactly what happens with my mustang. I drive around for a while, come to a stop and a small amount of white smoke comes through the vents and smells like burning plastic. I have tried to catch it on video, but its hard to see. I have checked all fluids and inspected my garage floor for any type of leak and can't find anything. I also used a thermal gun to see if one of the brakes was sticking or was abnormally hot. The best answer I found on the internet is that i probably ran over a plastic bag that is burning on the exhaust some where and when I stop, the smoke travels up to the HVAC intake and puffs out.
I Would First Take a Look At The Cabin Filter For Any Signs of Moisture. Then I Would Take the Cowl Off An Look For Junk Inside Which The A/C Maybe Pulling in. Here are Some Pdf'S to Help on the Suggestions.
The Wiper Panel is a Pain and Requires a Wiper Arm Puller But Maybe You Could Take Off Fasteners and Be Able To Peak in on Passenger Sides. I Don't Know on these Later Cars if They Have a Drain Like the S-197'S That Plug Up and Let The Cowl Get Filled With Water But It Could. I did Notice on the Op's Pics Some Leaves on The Cowl. If Your car is Regularly Exposed To Rain, Leaves or Drive Through Car Washes I Would Be The More Suspect and if The Inverse Were True Less Suspect!
