I am NEW member and buying my 3rd. mustang in my life's cycle. 1970 Mach1, 1986 GT and now my 2015 GT. But I am reading these post and am in the same state of wondering. The car has 3:31 std. gear and I assume it is designed to give matched with the hi performing 5.0L to give balanced performance in 6 gears with a nice top end. But if one wants slightly more low end performance but doesn't want the higher geared 3:73 I am wondering if the 3:55 is a middle of the road compromise. I assume the 3:31 is best matched for performance but allowing decent MPG and the 3:55 will reduce the MPG a little and the 3:73 will give good torque and low gear take off power but again for over the road the car will wine and 70 for example with a higher RPM to attain 70 because of the higher gear ratio. Or say it another way the 3:31 at 70 will run at a slightly lower RPM. Is my thinking correct???
I say a poster somewhere said a 3:55 would increase MPG say In 6th.. Someone straighten me out before I buy this week please !!!

With the 3:31's you should be able to get up to like 45 mph fully wound out in 1st and 68 in 2nd to if you had 355 it'd be 42mph in 1st and 63 in 2nd. If you had 3:73's it'd be 40 in 1st and 60 in 2nd. Search the internet and you can find the list of gear ratio's and speed of each gear.

See my post on the 2nd. pg. of this topic. Iam glad I joined this forum. I think for my interest for me the 3:55 is a good compromise! Thoughts??

If your looking for that balance between better low end performance without sacrificing fuel economy ? I would recommend going with the 355:1 gear ratio over 373:1 anytime..

The 355's IMO provide the perfect balance between the 331:1 and 373:1 ratio's for best overall low end performance without sacrificing MPG efficiency

I'm not convinced on the PP as yet & can't drive one til I get back down to the lower 48 right before I order one. Thx in Advance. Dennis
I have a 2015 gt with PP and I start off, from a stop, in 2nd gear all the time. Also, to keep from Jenkins my mom's head everytime I shift I also go from 2nd to 4th to keep a smooth acceleration and also improve the gas mileage as much as possible because when I'm driving alone I strive for the worst gas mileage I can get, lol
