Judging from a teaser image released from Ford Racing it's possible an EcoBoost Mustang concept will be shown at SEMA:

I've drove some of these ecoboost cars while my mustang is in the shop getting some minor things done to it and I don't like them. They have slow response times and power doesnt kick in until you gain momentum. It feels cheap

From the rumors I've read, the turbo 4 will have more HP then the current V6; somewhere in the 310 to 320 HP range. Rumor went on that the current V6 would be dropped, meaning the base would be a 4 cylinder, and the 5.0 the top line, in various HP packages.

A 4cyl will just be awkward in a mustang. Yes i know they used to offer it, but at least the v6 now sounds beefy as hell, i cant imagine hearing a boosted 4cyl in a stang now. Thats evo or sti territory.

You know what?
I took out the airbox silencer out of my '10 Focus and that thing got loud and deep on accel ... didn't sound like a V8 all of a sudden LOL, but not like a cheap 4-cyl either ... sounded better
With the right induction noise ('11+ 5.0 owners know that Ford already knows how to mess around with intake noise ) and the right power production (feel and actual HP), a turbo-4 in the smaller/lighter car that the '15+ Mustang is rumored to be, might not be all that bad.
The '13+ Fusions/Escapes no longer offer a V6, making do just fine with 4-cyl and turbo-4 power ... a lot of manufacturers are doing this ... the '13 Impala is gonna be offered with 4-cyl power for crying out loud ...
The downsizing is here and it's here to stay.
The 662-horse GT500 is most likely a last-hurrah of big V8 power ... get used to smaller turbo engines from now on boys ...
I felt this coming when I ordered my '13 ... I figured I'll at least have 2 years with the 5.0 and if the '15 car is nice, then I may make a change, but I don't see that happening unless that change is for me to supercharge this 5.0 I already own ... lol

Our family has owned 4 different four cylinder Mustangs over the years. 3 of them were Mustang 2s. One of them was a 79 ghia.
Nothing wrong with a straight 4 w/ no boost if that's what you want. Every one of those 4-bangers we owned turned over 200K miles! My 302 Mustang didn't even make it to 100k.
We saw a decent yellow fox body 4-banger at lunch yesterday. The paint was faded on the rubber pieces and the interior was well-worn. But when that lady got in and started it up, it purred like it was new.
I'd like to see Ford put the following engines in the newer cars: 4 cyl, 4 turbo & V8. Now a straight 6 would be a great choice; almost as good as a Wankel.

One was a new Escape. What a piece of crap...the interior looked like each section was designed by someone different. Gauges, radio, AC/Heat, Navigation, steering wheel, seats...all different in terms of style. It just wasn't flush and didn't flow... Anyway, the motor...it just felt loose and didn't do anything until I pushed on it hard when I was already going. There's easily a 4 second delay after punching it. Take off was especially slow. It's almost like you can tell exactly when the turbo kicks in which I just don't like.

Can't say I'm keen on the idea though. I was bought up on the European Capri and my first one was a 1.6 4-cylinder.........but I lusted after the 2.8 V6 Injections models. When I finally got to trade up (insurance was the only blocker at first) I just knew that the Mk3 Capri was made for the V6 engine. It made the car complete.
**** those CAFE rules

I have the 2.0L ecoboost Titanium and very happy about how the car drives and handles. Motor is up to task , very nervous and has plenty of torque without any lag whatsoever.
I had the 3L V6 in my previous 2009 Escape, all i can say is the difference is night and day . Nice work Ford. I'm lovin' it.
