2018 Mustang Ecoboost transmission issues

Hey Mustang Fam! I’m new to the Mustang experience, and I want to make my car FASTER installing upgrades without voiding my extended warranty. I want to install a cold air intake, modify the exhaust without it being so loud it’s annoying, and other mods—what do you all recommend? Thank you in advance for Your help, it’s greatly appreciated!

Um is there a issue with the transmission? also you would have to go to the dealer more than likely to do up grades so your warranty does void. They are pretty picky with that stuff.

Actually, that’s not entirely true. I reviewed my extended warranty and spoke with Ford auto services and they confirm that modified exhaust systems, cold air intake or blow off valve OEM’s does NOT automatically void the warranty. IF the mods fail it is not covered under the warranty. IF the mods cause engine damage, which they would have to prove, the repairs for the damage done will not be covered.

Of note, there is a civil lawsuit filed against Ford motors with over 22 claimants for a transmissions they used for the ecoboost that are made from China that cannot handle the torque of the engine.

I just took my ride in for the second time for the same issue, hard shift from Park to Drive. The first time they said it was a “transmission valve”...

As to the OP, I was looking for recommendations for exhaust, cold air intake and blow off valve. For the exhaust, I don’t want it too loud, looking for a low rumble and mid-range sound when accelerating, any suggestions or recommendations out there?

Thanks in advance.

I get that but what you got to under stand is that they are not trying to sell you the car you have it so that being said no matter what the issue if there are after market parts on a car that there is a issue with they are going to get you to pay for the repairs, dealers are not your friends. Maybe your neighbor but not a friend. And with the transmission issue I would dig a little deeper into exactly what is wrong with he transmissions in the lawsuit and have them check that out.

totally agree, definitely not my friend and honestly don’t trust them, certainly after my recent experience. The car shifts hard from Park to Drive. When it started happening the first time, they said it was a “transmission valve” they had to replace. Gentle driving for 15 miles. Second time it started happening they said nothing was wrong with it, which was a lie. It eventually got worse. I have recorded video of how hard it shifts and rocks the whole car. I took it back in this past week and it was undeniably a hard shift, they confirmed it was abnormal, later to call me back and said they had to “erase the driver memory” and it’s shifting perfectly from Park to Drive.

has anyone heard of driver memory affecting how a car shifts from Park to Drive?

they also said they found a “pending code” that will eventually turn the engine light on, code P008A, system fuel failure. In my experience the car accelerated fine, no issues I experienced, no engine light, etc. they said they have to further diagnose but had to agree to $150 diagnostic fee, even though I have an extended warranty they said they won’t know it’s covered until they find exactly what it is.

ever heard of any of this BS?

Typical deal BS. I would tell them that with the extended warranty that they should cover it or if by any chance there is another Ford dealer around take it there. I have had issues like this in the past and all I said was I dont mind driving the extra 20 miles to go to the better rated dealer. Changed their tune. This was because they were a horrible dealer and didn't get much attention at the time.
No I have never heard of the driver memory affecting the transmission.

thanks for your time and responding, bro. This is the “better dealership” as the one I bought it from earns the 2.5 star rating they have, and that rating is being nice. I’m thinking this is more BS and they’re not going to like me when I have to come get my car and go the BBB, social media and Google to warn people how dishonest they are. Thanks again, bro.

My 2018 EcoBoost 10 speed was shifting hard into drive, most noticeably when the engine was restarted during a long drive and the engine/trans were up to temperature. Took it back to my dealer and the reloaded the transmission (no charge) with newer software. So far it has shifted better than before, as I would expect it to shift.
