Digital Speed Indicator (type 2 gauge)

I am old and live in Canada and just picked up a 2014 Mustang GT .
I find the existing speedometer gauge difficult to read (km are in very small numbers) and was hoping to change the "type two" gauge cluster to show the speed digitally.
It seems like it should be an obvious choice as I have many other options but I do not see that option.

Is digital read out of speed hidden somewhere or is it just not an option ?

I've just looked through the user manual (I also have a 2014) and could find no display that shows current speed. I'm surprised that a Canadian car would have the large speed numbers in MPH and small number in KPH. I would have expected the opposite.

That's true. In fact, I'm pretty sure Canadian law requires KPH as the outer (larger) numbers on the speedometer. I travel there often and have never seen a vehicle that wasn't that way - other than ones bought in the US and imported.

I bought it used and it has to be a USA version.
I wonder how difficult to swap out the speedometer cluster to a metric one ?

Have you done this? Or is this not your Gauge cluster - pardon my ignorance if it isn't.

Thanks Noilly Pratt, i will give it a try but I suspect it will just default back to factory settings when the car is turned off. Factory settings doesn't seem to show speed digitally.

Yes it will vanish after you switch off, because this is a test engineering mode. The only way to have something permanent is go through your OBD2 port, and get a gauge that comes off of that, or interfaces to a phone or other device via Bluetooth.

Or, do what I did when my old car's speedo stopped working -- use your cell phone and have it read off your speed via location tracking. HUD for cheap!

Good Luck.

Thanks again Noilly Pratt. I like the idea of a small separate gauge plugging into the OBD2 port. Maybe from Ebay.

I am definitely not technically oriented. Other than plugging into OBD2 what other specs do I look for (ie: maybe simply Ford 2014 compatible ?) Thanks for any advice you can offer

You could try something like this:

Amazon.com: OBD-II Head Up Display Speedometer with Speed (Miles/KM), RPM, Voltage, Water Temp. (easy self installation): Automotive Amazon.com: OBD-II Head Up Display Speedometer with Speed (Miles/KM), RPM, Voltage, Water Temp. (easy self installation): Automotive

You could also try replacing just the gauge face. I got a custom gauge face from Black Cat Custom. It is fairly simple to install and costs less than $150. They only show MPH faces on their website but I would guess they could do KPH as well.

I contacted the seller of my used car and found the Canadian car was going to be sold in the USA, so they flipped the gauge cluster. Good news is they still have the metric cluster cluster and will provide it to me free of charge.
Question: after I remove the faceplate and pull the old gauge cluster and install the metric cluster, will the computer sense the change and switch the calibration over to metric or is this something a Ford dealership will need to calibrate ?

BTW: thanks to Gabe for searching out the digital add-on solution. This web site is excellent.

Cool! Getting the metric cluster is the best solution for you, and you can't beat free.
