Noises from struts (Koni Str.t)
Noises from struts (Koni Str.t)
I've had my Konis/steeda ultralights/GT500 mounts installed for a few months now and started hearing some noises.
The first I got was almost like a deep hum like a "zzzzz" from the front when going over small bumps/dips. I could duplicate it by pressing down on the front. It comes and goes.
The second and most recent is now a high pitched whistle from the rear right whenever the shock moves. I can also duplicate it by pressing down in the rear.
Any ideas? Normal noises for aftermarket suspension or should I look into this more?? Thanks.

This happened when I dropped in my Eibach kit. A lot of it turned outgo be bad wheel bearings and also the UCA being off. Check to see that everything is buttoned down tight and secure with some lock tight, aftermarket suspension has a tendency to loosen up after some miles and should be checked every 3,000 miles as my alignment shop told me after their being I the business for 30 years. You will get some good help on here soon I'm sure..
That's funny we both installed ours around the same time and I have noises now too. I think it's mostly from the heat. I get a random squeak and binding sound every now and then from the strut mounts. I would check all your bolts and re-torque anything if necessary.
I thought the same too cause if I drive for a whole and pull in the driveway I hear it. Pull out the next day and it's gone. So I think heat from the weather and the car play a role. I'm thinking this whistling sound will come and go also. I just HATE sounds!!!!!
Any other ideas or has anyone else gotten this low whistling sound as soon as the shock moves? Or with that humming sound. Could the shocks/struts be bad/defective?
I have more sounds emanating from my basically brand new car as I drive down the street. It's embarrassing. Lol

Is it from the rear end mostly while driving? My BMR panhard bar emits some noise. Only way I can describe the sound is like when you hold a sea shell up to your ear to hear the ocean lol. Didn't you put one in as well? Since I've installed lower control arms my car now sings like a canary from the rear end around 82 mph.
Nah it's right from the wheel well when u push down only on the right rear, high pitched whistle but not all that loud. And the humming is from the front occasionally.
Yeah I do have that increase in NVH from the PHB too. I hear it in the car with windows up.

Good to hear this, but I suppose bad as well.
Had Koni Sports, Eibach Pro Kit + BMR adjustable rod installed 2 weeks ago and all was fine for a few days until the rear started making a rattling noise when going over bumps and bad roads but ONLY under 40 MPH.
Couldn't reproduce by pushing the rear down (compressing/decompressing) so I'm thinking it's not thenew rear shocks, but maybe the panhard as the noise only happens on rough roads/bumps and at low speeds (I believe the panhard is effective on these conditions).
Checked the panhard rod and adjustment endlinks seemed to loosen up?? Found grease on them (put in by the shop?) so i applied loctite on both links and tightened them down. Noise went away but came back.
Gonna bring it back hopefully its just more bushings that need to be greased but I'm glad to hear people also experience these types of fettering issues after install and in the heat.

Well it seems, I hope, that it was the hard boot on the konis. It seemed to have been jammed pushed over on one side so it was rubbing the shock body and marring it. I just reached it with a wrench and tried to pull it off. It's stuck pretty good but that seemed to stop the whistling/squeaking. Once I get the wheel off I'll be able to check it out better
I just wanted to add this little bit if info, i just installed the koni str.t's yesterday and noticed that after torquing everything down the plastic cover on the rear shocks was not centered and was pushing against the orange tube.
I can definitely see this causing all kinds if noise in the future, especially once a little dirt or dust gets in there.
I ended up heating up the top of the plastic shield with a torch so i could re center it as it cooled.
It seems to be holding in it's new positioning.
Next time i rotate tires I'll check on it again.
I'm glad i stumbled across this thread BEFORE installing mine!
