Cost to lower mustang GT

I got a quote today of $470.00 to lower my 2012 GT. All the cost is labor to install the parts I will give them plus an alignment. Is this reasonable?

Seems a little high. I would try and shoot for $300. Know of any local Mustang forums you can scour? Usually shops like to become sponsors and will sometimes provide discounts to other forum members.

Is that for just the springs, or for the shocks and struts also?

If you're changing everything out. It seems fair, considering the labor and all four wheel alignment also.

If pinching pennies, original panhard bars can be made adjustable. Just need a welder, little bit of piping and a piece of all thread.

Thanks Al. Not really pinching pennies however when I got the quote today of $470.00 to install springs, front strut mourns, pan hard bar and an alignment, it just seemed high when I have all the parts. But, I live in Wyoming and we have a high cost of living and minimum goods and services.

Not really. You're looking at least 5hrs labor to do the work. Labor rate close to $100/hr. that's right on target. The install is really not difficult though. The rear end is a cake walk. You can pull the struts and springs off as one assembly and pay a mechanic on the side to swap out springs for dirt cheap cash also. Then all you have left is the alignment. Or just find a suspension tech at a tire shop and see if he does work on the side. All of those guys are looking for an easy cash hustle. Like I said though. The rear is definitely simple. I would diy.

Nice! Your fortunate to have a group of people with common interests. Where I live, F250's are the transportation of choice and clubs are non- existent. But, it is what it is. By the way, your car is "freaking beautiful". After looking at your car on a different thread, I fell in love with the stance. Now I'm down this lowering road.......

Check your dealership out, if they have an aftermarket department. I just had the Eibach Pro-plus system installed on mine for $1495 installed. The kit alone at Eibach's website sells for $1401. I also had Flowmaster Competition catback exhaust installed for $925. Parts on that were around $850, everywhere I looked online. Not only was it a sick deal, but it's all covered under factory warranty now!

For parts alone, you need (at the very minumum)

Springs = $100-150
Camber bolts = $25

Highly recommended (but not absolutely necessary):
Shocks = $400
Caster/camber plates = $300
Panhard bar = $150

If you lower the car more than 1.5 inches in the back, you need one of these to either adjust the pinion angle (using adjustable control arms) or mitigate the change in pinion angle (drive shaft):

Adjustable rear upper control arms
Adjustable rear lower control arms
One-piece DSS aluminum drive shaft (the one with the CV Joint) = $700

If you need someone to do the work for you, shop rates vary from $50 to $100 per hour.

It takes at least an hour to do the back springs, and a couple of hours to do the front springs.

I think $470 to swap out springs is reasonable if that includes the alignment. I had a shop do an alignment on my car after I installed my shocks/springs, and it cost $180.
