Hey All, new here. Long story short. We decided to keep our 2010 GT. So mods are coming. First off we are going to buy new wheels and want to go as wide on the back without rubbing. The car is not lowered and don't plan on that. I like how the current stock tires fill the wheel well. So, what width rim and what size will max out that wheel well? Does anyone have pics of the widest tire?
Thanks!
Perk
If you really want to go to the maximum, you can fit up to 11" wide wheel with 305 tire all around; if everything is perfect. This is what the serious road track guys run on these cars. However you probably don't really want or need that for the street, and the clearances get super critical when you are pushing the envelope like that.
For practical purposes, I would go with 10" or 10.5" wheels. I'm pretty sure I posted a list of offsets by width recently, I don't have time to search that out right now, but you should be able to find it with the search. (it might have been on a different board . . . if you cannot find after searching, please let me know and I will re-post)
After you have chosen your wheel width, you should size the tires to go with the wheels. You can look up the specific tires you are considering on Tire Rack, and then check the "specs" tab to see the recommended wheel rim width. I would make sure the wheels are at least the "measuring width" for the tires. For a 10" wheel, I would probably go with 285 tires. But again I would check the manufacturer's recommendations to make sure the tires are correctly matched to the wheels.
I run 275/35R20 all the way around and works great for mine on 20x9.5 rims with +.45 offset. Hear of a lot of complaints of Tramlining if you go too wide. I know 275 works fine, and have heard with a good brand of tire a 285 will work with a correct alignment. If you run a square setup I would not go wider than 285, but make sure you are using a good tire like Michelin, Continental, etc. If not Square then the rears can go to 305 with an 11" rim.

I agree with the posted equivalency table with the exception of ideal tire width vs maximum tire width for 9.5" rim widths.. According to Tire Rack, measured rim width for 275mm tires is 9.5"
