19" PP Wheels - Rear tire question

So after getting my 30k mile service today, the dealership notified me that the rear tires are at 3/32 left. Which is surprising to me because I don't remember them being low before taking it in, and the fronts are fine, but I digress.

I need new rear tires, I have the 19" Performance Package wheels. I was wondering if anyone has gone wider with the tires on these wheels and if so, what has your experience been?

I am going with 275/40/19's on mine when I replace the tires, I also rotate them so my fronts and rears are equally worn with about 20,000 on them, maybe 5,000 left after I put them back on next month.

I got my 30k service late, I actually have just shy of 40k on mine. Original tires, the fronts have about 50% left and rears are gone. So I got some good use out of mine. Let us know how the 275s work!

The PP wheels are only 8.5" wide, really too narrow for best performance with a 275 tire.

And to get 30K out of those tires is doing really well, I know my GT will never make 30K on the same tires!

As was suggested above, really need to be rotated at least every oil change, unless you go the full 10K, if so then you need to rotate at mid oil change interval.

Also, I know only the rear tires are so worn down that they need replacing, but you would be better off to replace all 4.

There are quite a few good choices now in the original size, some real good ones for less than $200 each.

Dam, 20,000 miles on mine and they are at 5/32, but that is still doing better than most with the Brembos. I guess I need to corner slower................... nope, not happening.

Normally I would replace all 4, but there is a LOT of tread left on the fronts, it would just be a huge waste. They easily have another 20k miles in them.

Also, Tire Rack is having a sale right now, you can get the Pirellis for like $251/tire, which is about $130 off.

Why not just rotate them and get a few extra thousand out of them?

I would just make sure the new and old tires have similar grip...otherwise things can get interesting.

So, you haven't nee rotating them, really something you need to do.

Jump on a pair of those sale pirrelli's, but watch the tread wear compared to the front so you can even it out.

Yeah I will stick with the same tires, I love the Pirellis for grip and wear. They do really well in the rain too. Overall I'm a big fan.

I have been taking it to the dealership for oil changes (just easier on my warranty) and thought that they were doing it with the oil changes, guess not. I would normally agree, but I got 40k miles out of the rears, and will probably get 60-70k miles out of the fronts, so I am perfectly happy with that tread life even without rotating them.

Especially if I switch the rears out for some wider tires, I couldn't rotate the tires at all then. That's what this thread was supposed to be about, but I guess nobody has done it. Now that I think about it, I would rather have a non-staggered setup anyway. At least until the supercharger goes back on

Well, as I stated above, a 275 section tire is too wide for a 8.5" wheel.

And you said you got 30K out of the tires, not 40K.

No way possible to get 60-70K out of any of them, no matter whether you rotate or not.

I took my car in for an oil change today, gave me an excuse to check out the mustangs on the lot both new and used. I was told i should be needing tire replacement soon. I have a base model 2012 v6, if i wanted to upgrade to 18's from the performance pack (preferably the black ones on the 13-14ʻs) how much do you guys think they would charge?

The performance pack wheels are 19". I've seen them go for $1000-ish for a set, with original tires on a couple forums, with low miles, no damaged, etc.

No I didn't, I said I got my 30k mile service done just shy of 40k miles. Why are you just coming in here to argue with me in my thread?

I picked up a set of PP wheels with Pirellis. Fronts are 255/40 and rears are 285/35. The rears look AWESOME, but are a bit too wide. I picked up a set of 255/40 Goodyear Eagle F1's today I found on craigslist for a good price. The Pirellis are coming off and the Goodyears are going on.

If you got 30k out of your tires I'd say you're doing good. If you want to bump up to 275 width tires you'll be fine.

Yes you said it twice. But it's incorrect. The PP wheels are 9" wide. Plenty of people run 275's no problem and some even run 285's in the rear.

He was referring to the V6 PP wheels (which is what the OP has) being 8.5" wide not the Brembo/Track Pack wheels which we all know are 9".

On the 19x8.5 PP wheels stick with a 255/40 OE size.
If you want bigger tires then get a new wheel tire combo.

Here's a shot of the V6 PP wheels with 285/35 tires on them.

Wider tires will fit, contrary to what everyone is saying.

It's not about whether they will fit but more about safety.
