Did my daily commute for the first time today with the car. I drive an hour each way, mostly on a straight highway. The get to and from the highway I drive around some curvy roads that wind around three reservoirs. I was really impressed the way the car just soaked up the curves. I mean, I always hear people say how the American cars are good in a straight line, but don't handle as well as others, i.e Miada, BRZ, FRS, etc. I don't have any complaints. I usually brake through the curves but with the Mustang it gripped the road without a problem.

As far as highway driving, the car can fly on an idle. The tach never went over 2 up to 85 mph. If I actually pushed on the gas pedal I would have gotten pulled over! How do people with the 5.0 not lose their licenses?

Needless to say the daily commute, which is usually a drag, wasn't half bad today.

My daily commute to work is an hour each way. Traffic has been horrendous this week, a lot of stop and go. I've been driving the car easy as it breaks in and want to get a sense of the mpg that it can/will get. So far it gets just under 24 mpg. I was hoping for more, and if the traffic keeps moving I think it could do a little better. Sooner or later I'm going to want to drive it harder and I imagine the mpg will be less than 19 on those days.

One of the things that I noticed this week had to do with the My Color for the gages. I leave at 7 am when dawn is just breaking and about half way through my commute the color changes to white. It will turn back to a color when I go under an overpass. It must have an outside light sensor that controls these lights.

The other thing I noticed this week is the wiring for the auto dimming mirror. It looks like they are wrapped in black electrical tape. My wife bought a 2013 Outback a month before I got the Mustang and Subaru has a piece of plastic molding that looks more finished. I think Ford can do a better job with this minor detail.

 

With every other Ford car, including my day's Fusion and mom's Focus, it's wrapped in a techflex material...

 

We are about to get our car it is in transit, the wife noticed the lighted pony and is totally tripped out by it LOL First time I have seen someone post up a picture of the light shining. The small dealer we are dealing with did not even know they did that Nice car ours is DIB wirh Red stripes.

 

The puddle lights are really cool. My wife's Outback gives off more square feet from her puddle lights, but everyone loves the pony. Post up some pics of your car. I've seen red stripes on Grabber Blue and Black. I'd like to see them on DIB.

I've washed my car every weekend since I got it. That's a lot considering I probably washed my last car twice a year. I only saw that car as my daily commuter. There's a lot more pride in owning a Mustang.

So yesterday I not only washed the car, but clayed the car for the first time. You get a good education on this website, because I didn't know what that was until I read about it on here. Not that it mattered before, because the car I was driving wasn't worth claying. After I clayed the car I gave it a coat of Mothers Synthetic wax. I let the wax cure for 24 hours and then today gave it a second coat of Mothers carnuba wax.

A few people on here posted that they don't let the dealer touch the car. Rather, they take it home and detail it themselves. My first impression was that if you can get the car detailed for free, why go through all that labor. I think I know why now.

The two day detail on my car helped me to really inspect the paint. I noticed a small dimple on the hood and two imperfections in the paint. The first one is by the door so I noticed it pretty quick. Then I found another on the trunk. I didn't notice it the first day while applying the synthetic wax. I applied the carnuba wax later in the day and the lighting helped me to see the paint a little better.

It is well worth detailing your own car. You get acquainted with it really well.

Car was frozen over. Took me almost three hours to get home tonight. I was only in the dark about an hour. With the storm I found my visibility decreasing. The fog light made up for it.

Thanks. Car has less than 2k on it. It was a challenging drive home. It warned up to 70 yesterday so I was able to wash the car. 70 degrees with piles of snow all over.

 

A Franken Hurricane Noreaster , a snow storm, 70 degree weather all in about two weeks. Whats next for us?

 

Flying pigs and Tucks medicated wipes. I should wash mine at some point. She's dirty right now.
