Your "Info Center" for fuel level LIES!

I know it was dumb to let the fuel get low to this point and I acknowledge my stupidy...but none the less a little FYI. Don't ever trust what the info center displays! Mine said 5 miles to empty so I was on my way to the gas station ( about 3/4 mile from my house) and ran out before I got there. AGAIN I realize that it was MY FAULT for letting it get low in the first place...I'm just saying DON'T TRUST the milage to empty figure. I know....I'm a dumba$$....

I actually wanted to know the answer to that question. Your not dumb, you were testing it out for the rest of us, in case we are looking for good gas and get low.

+1 as I've been wondering the same thing. I got below 20 miles to empty last week and was getting nervous. It would be nice to have an 18 gal tank since I'm rarely getting even 200 miles on a tank.

mine is a 06 and when mine states zero miles to empty, I still have about a gal of fuel left in there. About 20 miles to go. I wonder if you can have yours adjusted some how

How many gallons were you then able to put in? I ran mine down to 7 and was only able to put in about 14. I think we have a 16 Gal tank.

I think every single car is going to be different. When mine says 1 mile to empty, I have about 10 miles left if I drive it like grandma.

I also wish the car had at LEAST a 20 gal tank...with the Blower on it I can barely make 150 miles before the low fuel warning comes on

Good to know, I'm surprised it could be that far off. I would think that if anything it would err on the side of reporting fewer miles than you can actually go on the remaining fuel.

I tried this just once last year I got down to 2 miles, my fuel gauge lit up red and i drove 5 miles, then got gas, car was still running.
Again nobody should ever be that low, will never do that again.

I've has my 11 GT down to 7 MTE, it held 14 gallons when I filled it up. Think it does depend on the car.

Good to know. Back in August, I got as close as I ever want to get to running empty. I was on my way back to Montgomery from Atlanta, and in the wee morning hours, nothing was open on the abandoned country roads I was on. When I finally found a station that had running pumps, the display was reading 18 miles to empty.

The mileage to empty is based on your average fuel economy. You'll notice if you beat on the car for a tank and the average is low, your gauge will be much higher when the 50 miles to empty comes on. When my car was new my 50 miles to empty came on at like 1/4 tank lol.

So if you had averaged really good mileage for that tank, say on the freeway, then drove in the city to get to the gas station the numbers wouldn't match up, it won't adjust itself that fast.

Rich, Your Boss was helping you out--it knows there's nothing but evil at Maxwell AFB, and was helping you not to return there. My 7 weeks there in '96 was completly useless (except for square filling).

Makes sense the computer controls miles to empty by driving habit. Since I put 170 miles on at MPH Mustang Roundup, I'm guessing I can drive to 0 and still have 20+ miles remaining.

Just like my Lincoln I discovered that reading is based off of an algorythm - so it varies, but the zero meant five more miles at least.

Exactly. After my last track event, I got the low fuel light with over a quarter tank showing. I guess it was due to averaging 5.6 mpg.

My '06 did this and it had mycolor but I can't say I've seen it in my Boss.
